Jason W - tell that guy if he wants a better ride he should turn the springs around under the seat so they face the correct direction.

(Why do so many people install the springs in the reverse direction?)

Charlie - talk about overkill - it looks like they blew up a stack of hay bales - hahaha

Hydro, did you notice that the "stuck" 100 that Charlie posted on Saturday, February 11th has the seat spring backwards? It's rare to see a Narrow Frame round fendered Cub with the seat spring backwards. I've heard that some people that are smaller will do it as it makes it easier to reach the clutch/brake pedal.

As to 1x6/7 and later series with the double seat springs, not sure why so many of those end up backwards. Perhaps they see the old round fendered Cubs and think they should be mounted in the same orientation as them.

MTD even featured an Original with the seat spring mounted backwards in it's 40th anniversary brochures. I seem to recall that the owner of the Original is a Cub Cadet employee and that he himself was pictured in a 1984 CCC brochure on a SGT. The SGT looks bigger in the photo because he's not as tall as the average guy. I forget who initially mentioned it here years ago... Here's some excerpts from the brochures. One thing that bugs me the most about this Original is the black bolt/washer on the front wheel/hub. It should be yellow! Being black it just JUMPS out at me.

What's the consensus on tri rib tires I think they'd look good on the125.What y'all think function over form etc

I think tri-ribs would look and work great on a 125.

Unless you're using it to mow your lawn and your soil is really soft, in which case they might cause ruts.

Thanks Charlie for the shameless plug!

By the way... I can put any graphic image on those mugs, doesn't have to be just your tractor. Photos, logos, funny sayings (nothing X-rated please). I can also apply these to license plates. I'll be getting some pictures together of what all we can do. Thanks!

Under edit: When I suggest logos, I mean your own business. While I could certainly print 'Cub Cadet' or 'IH' or whatever, I don't want to get in trouble for copyright infringement.

Kraig,
I found this photo that I believe Jim Chabot took at MTD headquarters years ago. I have the photo tagged 48xxx probably the s/n. I'm sure it's the same one as in that brochure.

Bill, thanks for the photo! Yep, that's it. Has that ugly telltale black bolt and washer on the front tire hub, the black seat cushion, backwards seat spring and the white painted "Good Year" text on the rear tires. I thought this was owned (and perhaps it is and he allows it to be displayed at MTD) by the guy riding the SGT in the CCC brochure.

This is one owned by Navistar, s/n 29409. It was on display at their Lisle, IL headquarters. I think the same tractor used in this photo.

Kraig - nope, didn't notice the backward C-spring on the stuck 100. When it comes to round fenders I tend to not notice since I never officially owned one (My son has a 100 in his shed that he says has my name on it - I keep posting rear view pics of it ever once in a while - it's got those big AGs on it).

The backward double seat springs just always catch my eye. Is it possible people think of the Large single C-spring when they install their small twins??? I suppose - but you'd think they'd look at it and see it doesn't make sense - it won't flex where the butt sits.

Bill J - I think you're trying to fool us. That last pic must be that girls daughter.

What a cutie! How did they know she was gonna go blonde.

The Original picture that Kraig posted at the MTD office, it looks like the rockshaft brackets are on wrong, hard to tell from here but they do go on the inside of the frame.

Charlie, nice mug on the mug.

Lew - I can't tell what the rockshaft brackets are that you're talking about - guess it's my lack of round fender knowledge.

I did notice the spark plug wire is clamped to the edge of the flywheel shroud. That's a nice idea to help keep it clear of the fuel line. Is that factory original placement?

The seat springs on my 1000 are on backwards. They were put that way about 1989 when the original owners had a neighbor help them put a new non IH seat on it. I was helping him. The seat didn't have holes that lined up do he welded it to the backwards springs.

I'll never change it because I don't want to forget that neighbor or the people that gave me the 1000. Lots of memories are in that machine. I'm the only one that sees them.

I have never thought about the spring direction but it does make sense. I now will go check my cubs! Although I do have plenty of padding....
