Paul B & Kraig:

You are both correct. I didn't realize that the CCO had four different Ignition Switches to accommodate a serial range and whether Elec or Recoil start was used.

Both Ignition Switches for the Recoil applications are NLA. Thus the only switch left for the CCO is the IH-403562-R3 which is a SPST switch (two terminal switch)used on the Elec start application.

Roland,

You can get a switch from Stens that works on the Recoil tractors. It use the same or similar key. It is for late model magneto ignition stuff, and is a common switch. I don't have the number but you should be able to look it up on their website with the later CCO Recoil Switch part number.

im noticing a trend here,,,,,i post,,,,,it doesnt get answered, then i post again and it gets answered?,,,,is this how this forum runs?,,,,,,i need a govenr gear for my 71's motor after it imploded itself in the motor,,,,thanks guys

COREY - Sorry, No, questions are normally answered when someone knows the correct answer. And normally 95+% of the questions are answered I would estimate.

ANYHOW, do You mean the nylon gear the governor flyweights are attached to? If so, any local Kohler parts dealer or most of our sponsors above (the brightly colored boxes above are links) should be able to get that gear for You. Local dealer may have to special order, which means the sponsors would be as cheap or cheaper and just as quick delivery. Hot engine oil and nylon are not a great combination, I'd install a new gear assembly. A used one could fail quickly. The K161 and K181 gears should all be the same. Lots of K181's (8 hp) were installed as replacement engines, either complete engines, long blocks, mini-blocks, or short blocks.

Cory any body that sells Kohler engine parts will sell you a new govenor gear. Try any of the sponsors on the top of the page.

Just curious as to what you've done on your own to find one?
Did ya by chance look at the Parts Look up Button at the top of every page to get a Part Number?
Did ya by chance call or email any one of the sponsors at the top of every page that specialize in Cub Cadet/Kohler parts?
I see a trend here too.

the gear isnt nylon, i have been on this computer at every cub site, for 2 days now tryin to find a gear, i wouldnt have posted if i havent already looked elsewhere, im just tryin to ask the "experts". sorry if i caused any inconvenice, my 7 horse spit gear teeth in the bottom of the oil pan,,,it looks as though the govenor is missing like half of its teeth, their metal teeth, i know nothing about the govenor gears in these tractors......i even emailed brian miller about it,,,,

i put one in my 149, my kohler dealer usually has everything but he had to order a gov. gear it was like $19 with my frequent coustomer disscount... i believe there all the same size because he didnt ask what it was for and its worken fine.

i could call hines equipment and have them order a gear, but that particular place is out of my price range, they're always really expensive,

Brian Miller is a tad bit indisposed at the moment.
How does I put this mildly.
He's in prison! For child pornography

Charlie's being too kind. There is a trend, and it's not just Corey. In this modern age of "instant gratification" it seems easier to post a question in a forum, maybe several forums, and hope for a quick answer. I'm a big fan of having a manual - owners' or service, hopefully both-to go to. They're readily available. Since these haven't been seen publicly very often, lately, I'll refresh them:

The truth will set ya free.

Whoah! So much for Charlie being too kind!

I just got off the phone with Scott Madson, and guess what, he's got what you need and the cost of $27.47 plus a few bucks shipping.
Here's the number in case you don't feel like clicking the sponsor button above.
920-773-2661

See how easy that was!

wow oops sorry for brian,,,,,thanks charlie,,,,ya know i didnt call any of the above sponsor buttons, but they should have stuff on their sites,,,,,i looked through their sites and found nothin,,,,,but if he has one then woot! im gettin a new govenor gear.,,,,,,thanks guys,,,,ill keep everyone updated on project 71 recovery

Yes I knew you where making a HD joke and I even like the bumper stickers that say Loud Pipes Saves Lives, I just dont agree with it.

I have noticed many a cub cadet driver at the plowday events wearing some form of hearing protection while out having fun in the field and as load as the pipes are on our cubs I have not heard the guy behing me until he was inches behind my plow, unless it was Travis and his killer desiel.

There's a reason that Many Cub dealers don't have full listing websites.
1.Cost of the software/program to do it.
2.Cost of maintaining the inventory list.
3.Cost of labor
4.The time that they really don't have
5.Cost of people to handle everything
6.And the idea of tryin to keep the cost of parts down so we can buy them cheaper than the big guys sell them for.

There are a lot of Cub Cadet dealers out there that do not have full listing websites.
Having built a few myself and also maintain them, Dealers just don't have the time to do what it takes to maintain a website like it should be.

That and the fact that the inventory from Cub Cadet/MTD changes on a daily bases. It would take someone setting revising a website 8 hours a day and still couldn't keep up.

That's why they all have phone numbers listed!

Lets see, where can I get my hands on a HD motor amd how hard would it be to rig it up to work in my 100?

anyone know of a way to rig my CW-36 to work for my 149 without completely killing it? id like to find the correct one but money is tight... any ideas?

LONNIE - To be honest, the sound of a bunch of single cyl. Kohlers running at a PD I just find annoying.

Back years ago Dad & I were plowing (yep, another old SHORT farming story!) I was on the 450 and Dad was on the M and for some reason We were about side-by-side for some reason plowing. Those two FARMALLS were making a sound that made the hair stand up on the back of my neck! Only thing I've ever heard sound better was an Allison V-12 in a P-51. It was similar to a plane ride I had 20-some yrs ago, twin engine piston engine plane, just before the pilot synchronized the engines.

If I had to spend 10-12+ hrs a day on one of the FARMALL's, the mufflers stashed in the corner of the shop would be put on. But for the little bit of idling around I do, pipes work.

I actually like my straightpipe on the 72, it's not as loud and obnoxious as one would think. The CC 70 had dual chrome VW Beetle straightpipes, sorry, without raincaps, for a few years in the late 1960's till about 1974. They weren't loud either on a 7 & 8 HP Kohler.
