This just in from Hydro Harry on the QAxxA on a non-QA Narrow Frame Cub topic:

I charge and trickle charge everything in the fall. After that, they are on their own.
I use 2 brands of batteries.
Cub Cadet and Roadrunner's from Fleet Farm, and have for years.
No heaters on anything unless it gets down closer to 40 below or colder.
The 149 is the only one that never fails to start at any temp. Even though it's not one of my favorites in the fleet, LOL
I bought it about 8 or 9 years ago at an auction that I had to outbid Hugh S. at and it's never been touched except for changing the Hytran, filter and air filter.
Never even checked the timing or points, I figure why fix it if it ain't broke!

Harry (Kraig): Not having a welder, I always try to find ways of bolting things together. A welded extension of the "forks" could be fashioned like a jig-saw puzzle piece and a retaining plate added via flat head fasteners (or welded studs) which would allow the blower to be transferred from tractors it was obviously built for to those for which it was not originally designed (like a 102/122). The only concern I have about my design (see Paint sketch below) is getting room on the fork before hitting the socket for the upright.

I was wondering if these pins(see arrow)on the qa42a throwers line up with the holes on the 70-123?

Maybe they can be removed and a thru rod long enough for the arms to be attached, would replace it.

Kraig, Oh Great One Keeper of the Photos - thank you so much for posting my "enhanced" bracket drawing. Because I recall having had a thrower with extended ears (or forks as Jeremiah refers to them) I now feel somewhat strongly the IH Adapter Pkg did exist and contained 2 of these extended ear (fork) brackets. This way the unit can continue to be used on the early non-QA tractors, and also on the NF and WF QA tractors. I also suspect the Adapter Pkg was not a big demand/big seller, and thus somehow disappeared from the parts listing information. I sure wish I had that old A suffix thrower so I could see it and show pics. The extension is not really that long (length is probably exaggerated in my drawing pic). Just needs to be long enough to allow it to be bolted to the existing hole in the frame.
IN FACT - you could probably install a Frankenstein bolt into the rearward existing hole on the non-QA tractor frame and slide this bracket into place on it, and then just install the bolt in the forward hole in this bracket which lines up with the front hole in the frame where the nut is already welded on the inside of the frame.

Lewis - good suggestion, but I don't think you could use a rod. It would most likely interfere with the belt from the PTO

As an aside - I have been looking for a place to retire. Some place that had reasonable (low) taxes and friendly neighbors. I came across this place and I think it meets both these criteria (although I haven't met the possible future neighbor but he/she must be friendly - do ya think?)

Donald T - You wrote the other day, "My chrapsman I bought in 96 is starting to knock so I don`t think it will last much longer and wanted the 125 to take over the mowing duties."

I meant to ask a quick question on that - I'm surprised you were not already mowing with one of your IHCC's. Just curious - have you got other IHCC's doing some mowing duties and just want to add the 125 to the mix or is this a one for one replacement of the old sears.

BILL - Don bought a new Zero turn mower of some sort last summer too. Plus he mows with his Cub Cadet Original at least once a year.

Bill Jamison

I bought the chraftsman back in May 96 and it was my first ride on. I don`t know why but I passed up a Cub with a creeper and should have bought both. My first cub was a 129 that I put the loader on it . every other tractor I have has never mowed the grass . I bought a Torro 4880 Zero turn last year for another property I mow . But it is kind a big around all the Pretty Bushes the wife had me plant. I thought the 125 would make a great size tractor to mow grass . The 125 will be ready for when the 15 hp sears dies lol. I have only two tractors that are not able to work. Some day I should up date my profile to include all the tractors with a group photo.

I did forget the 61 Original , crs is bad here ; thanks Denny !

Dtanner-

That's a great looking O, even better looking since it's on mowing duty.

Went on a road trip today. Called about what looked like a #2 cart (poor images) the other day and went to look at it. It was indeed a #2. Here are some pics.

This looks sort of poor, but not unsalvageable.

Did not come with a tailgate. Going to either find one or fabricate one. The right side brace needs to be welded at the bottom.

Tires are not correct, but for the short term, that's alright, because I have a swampy yard when it rains, so high flotation is good.

The fender has a slight dent; that is all.

It looks good behind the 147 IMO.

This was the first time the 147 has pulled anything since I bought it back in April of '12.

I asked the seller if she had any calls on it; she said a few. She couldn't believe it when I said that people are willing to travel hundreds of miles for one of these. This one was only 25 miles from my house, and was only $20.

Thanks.

Wow! $20! Great find. I paid $250 for mine (but it was complete with tailgate and original, but crack tires)

Nice setup you got there!

Harry,

Wouldn't bank on that lone surviver of Lost Springs to be friendly. Evidently he or she ran everybody else off!

Hey all - just pulled and cleaned the two balance gears in a k321. Problem is - the little roller bearings in one of them fell out! Do I replace the bearing or try and somehow get them back in. Help!

Terry, not to many people put balance gears back in, the idea is to get them out of the engine.

Jeff - what effect will it have on the engine? I've looked at various threads on the subject and sounds like a mixed bag?

I can't tell any difference really in any of the engines I removed them from, some guys feel a slight increase and some don't. Kirk engines above does sell a balance kit to replace these dreaded gears.

I can't say it loud enough get RID of them..

I know we've been down this road before but is the rear rim from a super (26x12x12 tire) the same with as a lets say a 1650 rear (23x10.5x12 tire)?

Hey Jeff - I just tossed em! Not planning on spending endless hours on the 147 and one less thing I ca screw up. They're gonzo!! Thanks for you help and being emphatic about it.
