If the holes are not broken out or cracked, there's only one safe effective fix.
It's called a heli-coil. They are stronger that the original metal and will last forever as long as you don't do like the PO did.

Tim, Welcome, Don't the top bolts for the fenders go into welded nuts in the top of the frame through the battery box? The only bolts to the rear end are the 3 on each side.
Did you check your float? make sure it isn't full of gas. With the bowl off and the fuel on, gently push up on the float and see if the gas stops. If you can't adjust the tang on the float to stop the problem is in the needle/seat. That is assuming the gas is comeing out of the fuel inlet to the carb and not a cracked hose or inlet fitting. Let us know what you find out.

hey yall i pulled out the 71 today and after a long days work, it looked different heres the after after takin the weel weights and concrete off the wheels, and takin off the custom crappy fenders,,,the motor has issues, the vavles are stuck open i think, it has no compression,,,,the wiring is a mess, and the carb is filled with crap,,,,ill keep everyone updated on the build

do you know who has made the lift arm? and yes just the arm itself is over 200

Roger; I bet you can post on the want add page, or check the prices from the sponsors at the top of the page and buy one about as cheap as you can have it made. They have anything you will need at a reasonable price.

That carb I'm messing with has a new needle and seat twice. The float seemed fine, but I stuck a new one in anyway. I'm going to close the seat and stick air in the fuel hose inlet to see where its coming from. I also thought about the float rubbing the bowl. It moves up and down fine. Has anyone had any luck using a carb off of a 12hse to put on a 14hse. It seems to run good.

Jeff B., I posted a link yesterday for you to a discussion we had back in December. The link is mid page on the "Archive through January 30, 2010" page. After you click on that link look for the discussion between myself and Rob Neubauer.

Regarding home made rear lifts, from my *forum archive* circa 1999:

I have no idea who made these or even who posted the photos.

Jeff B., yes that happens, some overlook the answers just like some overlook the questions.

Kraig the top one might be one Bryan M got on a tractor he bought, If it is he offered it free to anybody that wanted it with no takers

Brian M,

I’ve used manuals and hydrostatics to mow lawn with and I will take a hydro any day over a manual, JMO. I would look for any IH CC with a hydro and good mower deck. The 123 would be the least likely to pick (no spring seat and no quick attach feature).

You mentioned having a steep front lawn. I have 982 with an engine that has a pressurized oil system (similar as 782 w/series II engine). I installed an oil pressure gage to monitor oil pick-up, if the engine is down 1/2 pint I will see oil pressure fluctuations when mowing sideways on a hill. I don’t think the 782 with a series I engine (no pressurized system) oils the engine very well on a hill, assuming the series I engine is still running.

Dave, I was thinking it might have been Bryan that posted that photo, thanks for confirming.

Good memory BTW! There was a time when I only saved the photos, ever since September 11, 2001, I've saved the posts as well. NOT because of any security reasons, only because on 9/11 this site was posting updates for people and Bryan requested that I save it so I've saved it ever since. I have some of the early years posts archived. Also I was (the) one (or one of those) that saved the old Voyager forum posts before it crashed.

really i think the lift assembly dosent look that hard to make. im a tool n die guy so have the tools and steel available. and think i would just buy the link to the hydrolic lift point and the rest would just be fit up and weld. not like im gona lift a house with it and realy only have a little disc for attachments at this point but want to have it available to use. I just got the tractor but want to have it set up so its a fully capable work horse

5 or 10 years ago is no real problem for my memory, where I just put the last wrench I used is a whole nother matter.

Kraig:
Gotta love the water pipe stuff....Good to see from those who know that there's a time (if you REALLY can fabricate) to quit pondering, get out the torches, hacksaw and chalk and "just do it"
