Charlie-
Ribbed- for your coated asphalt driveway's pleasure. . . .

Charlie - First set of chains I had for My 72 when I still had the Pizza Cutter Tires on it (the GY 6-12 turfs) were similar to those chains except the side chains were nylon straps, and the molded plastic cross pieces had two little tungsten studs like the old studded snow tires had. Had the worst of ALL types of chains in one set..... Plastic that would crack/break when really cold, and studs to scratch concrete & blacktop. At least they were yellow..... And I used them for several years before I inherited a real set of chains. At least they were cheap! Drivway was about 15-18 ft wide & 60 ft long..... I really didn't need the QA-36.... but It was cheap too! That was back when We still got snow ;-)

Some of you may remember I problem I had posted about my governor spring and RPM range adjustment on a 1650. I have not been able to post on the forum latley. I've been chopping firewood and getting ready for Christmas

With the forum's help I fiddled around with all of the adjustmentsof the cable, cable holder, bell crank, and a big one was fine tuning the idle and high speed carburetor mixture.

I took it from the high setting I had it at 2400-3300 and brought it back down to the low range. After fine tuning some adjustments I was able to achieve 1670-to about 3000. At that point the high speed stop was still backed out all of the way. I could see no reason why it would not go higher.

So I ended up cheating a little bit and I gave the end of the throttle spring a little tweak to give it just a little more tension. Then I reset the low idle. Now I had a range of 1900 to 3570. So I am happy with it the way it is now. It vibrated alot at the lower 1670rpm setting so I like to keep it slightly on the juice anyway, and it starts very well at that setting.

One thing I am happy and suprised of is WOW what alot of power this thing has at full RPM's. I know everyone always says that the K341 is a brute. I will have to agree, and being that it is my first Cub and all I guess I am getting kind of spoiled with the abundance of uuumph!!!. One thing for sure is also that it sure is thirsty, power comes at a price.

As a side note I will have to thank my engine builder for a job well done with a quick turn around. If anyone close to Cedar Rapids need a Kohler gone through I know a guy that does a great job for a reasonable price, and he has most of the parts on hand

Thanks again Jason

Ok- having a little trouble tracing down a throttle set up for an orignal. Is this strictly something I can get from a parts tractor only?

Tom "R",
Shouldn't be a big problem to find those goodies, just contact one of the sponcers.

Has anyone ever tried the "Electrolysis" system of getting parts down to bare metal?? Seen something on one of the green sites.

Hi Jason- The answer is that your spring is still too long... you're running out of throttle swing before coming up with enough spring-travel to make up for the excess length. shorten it up just a tad more by re-bending the long, straight section, you'll see your WOT engine speed come up, then adjust your cable position so that the engine speed (at idle) allows for the throttle blade to close. Then set your throttle-bellcrank's full-righthand limit swing by extending the screw-stop in the belcrank.

Remember- the governor spring's tension is determined by the spring-wire's diameter, the coil diameter, and number of turns-per-inch. The spring-rate is indicated in terms of pounds-of-tension-per-inch-of-travel... this 'rate' is matched to the governor weights and geometry... the governor arm presents so-much linear force, but the spring length needs to be correct for the situation. The long-flat segment of the spring is too long for the engine, so it's never getting full tension.

But if you like it that way, that's fine...

Tom did you forget when I posted my results doing that ... see if ya don't read all of my post you lose when I do give good info ...

I know Digger never pays attention
It works good if you want a finish that looks like black oxide (what I use on my Pin Tools), but if you have part rust and no rust it only works on the rust. I use a brass anode.

Actually when I said I tweaked the end of the spring I actually mean that I cut about 3/8 off and re-bent it.

I think the spring is short enough now because I had to screw the throttle stop in to prevent the RPM's from going higher than 3600. I just need to reposition the the throttle cable now to get the lower idle.

I only get to work on it in short spurts as with family Christmas preparations, my two kids Logan 4 and Morgan 2, overtime at work, and Mama's pregnant again hormones limit my garage time sometimes.

On the plus side I hope to bring Logan with me to spring plowday this year

Well so far I got the wide fender deck onthe 102 so the back of the windbreaker cab will fit.

but I ran into some trouble after installing the cab.

Honey, come quick, I need a bigger cub shed, can't get the tractor out of this one.

A while back someone was looking for the narrow rims with 1 inch centers.
Is this what you where looking for?
23861.jpg

23862.jpg

Well as far as I know they where never made by IHCC, I got these by haveing wide rims cut down and welded to 4 inch at a cost of $90

Lonny ya ruined that 102 , now it looks like one of those cheap stamped out red tractors ... Flat fenders rule !!
I built an aluminum 1x1 sq. tube frame for a pontoon house once and only had a 1/4" to get it out under the shop door (after I leveled out the gravel in front of the shop)

Jason H. -

Surprised noone's said anything yet, but the manual says the Quiet Lines are supposed to idle at 1800 with a high end (no load) at 3600. With load, 3400.

While running a lower RPM sounds cool, it's not necessarily the best thing. Think of how rough it is, bouncing on those isomounts, eating the snubbers...
