From the local Midas muffler, and I think thats a news paper lol. I want to add slip plate(graphite coating) to make the snow not stick to the tub. Do you think this will help the blower move snow? I don`t know if to do so is worth it or a waste of time and material. Later Don T

Don T., Slip-Plate definitely is worth painting on the inside of the auger housing AND the inside of the discharge chute, no need to put it on the auger itself however. It will prevent wet sticky snow from plugging it up and will increase slightly the distance it'll throw the snow.

my 128 with the stalling problem.

i think it is fixed!

i said, I THINK IT IS FIXED!!!

of course, it could just be toying with me. you know how evil these tractor are.

I patched the muffler leak with JB WELD. removed the non stock in line gas filter.
it just ran for an hour, no stalling. it never ran more then 20 minutes before stalling .

tomorrow, hopefully, i will cut the lawn. that will be about an hour with a load, (the mower running)and at full throttle. if it does not stall, i will declare it fixed.

i would have to guess it was the exhaust leak, as the filter was added about half way through my trouble shooting.
if i get bored one day, maybe i will put the filter back on, just to see if it was the filter.

thanks for all the help, and keep your fingers crossed.

Hey Guy's
We actually have snow in the weather forecast tomorrow here in Thrall, TX.
We're about 45 miles northeast of Austin.

Don T. A newspaper...naw, looks more like a pair of BVD's !!
Frank S. JBdontWeld on a muffler assy? Let us know how it holds up. carry a fire extinguisher. Think that stuff burns)

yes, i realize JB weld might have a problem with the heat. it is not recommended for exhaust systems.
but, i could not find any exhaust cement locally. no matter what i patch it with, it probably wont hold for long .
the only real exhaust repair i can do is to replace the whole exhaust system.
if JB WELD holds for a few hours, i will at least, finally, know what was causing the stalling problem.
it is also a small spot, about 1" square. even if if it does burn, i cant see it being a problem.
but, thanks for the warning.

Yahoo! Finaly snow up here in Michigan! We have about 2" and slowly rising. Time to put the plow on the "O".

SCOTT N. - Snow blowers work really well for moving shell corn in flat storage also. Saw that many yrs ago in FARMSHOW Mag. Tractor in the pic was one of those "off-color" things built up in Horicon, WI.

I don't think You'd want the "Speed-up" pulley on for that...the corn would crack really bad I would think.

Should work for soybeans also!

When are we going to start seeing some pictures with these claims of what a snowthrower can move?

Pictures.....or it didn't happen!

Art A , I`am with you, I would like to see some pictures also

You got a good eye lol. I had a look at the drop sheet this am and just had to clear this up lol.I must have about 4 of those drop sheets of diferent sizes , they work great as the paint don`t go through . Later Don T

Frank S.,

Glad to hear you've got your Cub up & running again!

What size fuel filter did you have installed? I've seen some pretty dinky ones - like the size of a dime - that I can't believe would work well or for very long. I bought a 14.5HP brand X 'grass cutter' to resell that had one; and it was plugged off. They might be ok for a weed-whip or chainsaw, but not a Cub. Although the package says they'll work on 7-15HP engines, I wouldn't even recommend one of the filters with a filtering area equal to the face of a quarter: http://www.m-and-d.com/ST-120-188.html?mv_pc=00015

With my 127 & 129 Cubs, I use a clear plastic universal filter that is about 4" long and 1.5" diameter without any fuel restriction issues. It has much more filtering area and thus will be less restrictive and allow a free flow of fuel from your gravity fuel tank.

I change the fuel filter (and the sparkplug, motor oil) at the end of every mowing season. Here it what I use:

Everyone has their own favorite gas filter. Here is mine. For what it's worth I think plastic looks cheap and inferior. You do not need a "big" filter. If you think you do, clean your gas tank. I use this and it works perfectly.

If your exhaust has a crimp that is causing the leak you can get a tool for about 10 bucks the will reshape your piece back to round. Maybe someone will tell you the name of it. I can't remember it. Also some guys posted that you could use furnace cement on that also.

At any rate, I'm glad got your Cub running. Have the best of holidays.

Kohler offers some inline gas filters that are specific for fuel pump equipped engines, others are used for gravity feed.
If the fuel pump filter is purchased for a gravity feed application performance suffers greatly. Typically it acts like it is vapor locking and will sputter and stall. Poor load pickup and high speed operation are also noted.

This was a widespread industry issue in 2009 so if you recently installed any new filter and have mysterious running issues since you may want to try a different filter. With a gravity fed filter, you should be able to blow through it with very little resistance (note many have directional arrows to install) Note that many of the fuel filters are from multiple worldwide sources and quality does vary greatly.
