Bruce Nolte,
Nope never saw that kind of melt. But I have never seen brown Bakelite on points either. Could there be a connection?

Have starter problems on my 100.

When attempting to start motor, I get no movement from the starter motor while depressing the start button.

Apond spinning the starter by hand while holding the start button in the motor will fire up after a couple turns of the crank.

Now once running for 20 minutes or so it will start on its own after shut down.
However the next day, its back to hand turning the starter to get fire in the motor.

Battery = full charge
Grounds = good/clean
Wires at starter = clean/ good condition
Posative on battery = good/clean

Heres some pics of "weed mowing" as dave said this is a 1200 with a 50" baffleless deck the creeper is the key to mowing deep.

Lonnie,
You might want to replace the brushes on the generator and take some fine emery cloth to the commutator to clean it up. If the brushes look ok, just try cleaning the commutator.

I can perhaps think of a couple of things.

A) They are using another type of plastic to make the insulators out of. If they're made in China these days, who knows what they are made from.

B) Either combined with A above, or by itself, perhaps there is an exhaust leak getting that part of the engine REAL hot. In any event, I have never seen this happen to breaker points before.

I have a K301 that will be rebuilt through this upcoming winter. Does anyone have any experience overboring up to the K321 bore and thus getting a 14 HP engine?

Doug W.-

I wouldn't do that, as the cylinder wall gets thin when you punch a 12 out to a 14. If you want a 14, then get a 14 block.

Jbennett, i know of some tires really close but not exact. i got a set with my model 70 and they looked sharp. go out and buy a set of the 4.80-8 trailer tires. they look really good and can take the wieght better

Doug W.,
Read up on the killer kohler and easily get 14 hp out of a K301. I only did half of the stuff to my K301 in my 129 and it was as powerfull as my 149.
