Hi all,

I'm looking for the belt length for the mule drive belt for a 782 with a 44" mower deck. I believe it's 89", but I'm looking for confirmation.

Thanks

Allen

Dave:
Actually, the two birds (a pair of !@#$%^&*^%$ cockatiels) were next up on the block....
I was letting Jimmy mull over the last point before suggesting that the float itself is probably OK.. I was then going to nudge him towards float level, even though he's probably got velcro rather than screws holding the carb together after this many times apart.. (I had a 55 Chevy w/original style 3 speed behind a clapped out 327 - I took out 9 synchronizers in 6 months, my dad (an ex Ford mechanic at that point) suggested wing nuts on all fasteners

Allen:
Didja check the faqs (linked at the top of the page)?? CubFAQ #4 here sez a 782 with a 44" deck uses a 954-3003-5/8 X 72" belt...

BTDT, a couple times in my life.
I ain't working today but I got to go put a 7 horse together. good luck guys.

Adrian:
Cross reffing that part number (954-3003) other places comes up with 21/32 x 88 1/2"... Hmmm... the faq is WRONG?????

Charlie:
Is that gonna be like a big Yooper Snow Scoop??

Wow what is that big bucket for, leaves. You won`t be able to fill that bucket with dirt and still move around for sure.It would make a good snow bucket

.I thought you had a big plow truck for the heavy snow. Loaders are great and as soon as I get a new key for the pump i`ll be ready to use mine again. So much to do and so little time

Gerry Ide, Etal: Yep, 72" is not correct.

However, the error is with the official MTD/Cub Cadet 1947-2001 Belt, Blade, & PTO Guide, Pub # 772-9059 (072501) from which the information apparently was taken. Yeah, the manual has an error!

The Belt listed as 954-3003A (5/8 x 72) probably should have been the longer, wider 954-3001 (5/8 x 21/32 x 91 11/16) for later 82 Series serial numbers.

Early 82 series tractors with the 44C deck needs the narrower, shorter belt 954-9071 (5/8 x 88 1/2)

Note: The above info does not involve or include the belts for the 982.

Hey! Charlie...please fix the FAQ.

Jeff D - No, the bars, items 7&8, connect to the studs that are mounted on the outside of the gearbox frame/bracket (you'll need a couple hairpin clips to hold them on). The lower bars mount to the holes at the bottom of the same frame (just a few inches lower), using the pins #3&4.

I was missing item 6 when I got my tiller, so I just bought a big eye-bolt and a small clevis to connect the chains to the eye-bolt. If you don't have item 10 you could get by with a big washer and a nylon locking nut. The diameter of the eye-bolt should match the hole in item 9, the lift rod. Although, in your photo I don't see a hole. If not, you'll need to drill one. I don't recall the size (mine's across town in storage right now), but the Parts Lookup should tell you. Hope that helps.

Thanks Lipp. ALL the info you gave me will be a big help.

Greatly appreciated
Jeff

Gerry,
Yup, I did check the faq. Also checked the parts locator. Came up with 2 different sizes.....a 72" and an 89". The problem is the one I have is an 84" and isnt even close to fitting, so I know the 72" is incorrect. Since I bought the deck and mule drive off the tractor Im left to try to determine the correct belt size without a correct one to compare it to. This after correcting several adjustments made incorrectly by the po--so hes not really any help at all.

that key you posted won`t cut it to fix my pump.We are leaving here for another three days of Camping and looking around. The wife has us busy till she goes back to work .I installed air bags on the back of my truck and they are great for the fiver.I can move the weight around and a smother ride for sure.I will soon be getting the 125 engine rebuild and the loader pump key replace, My Original still has a few parts to sand blast and then paint. I will get to it soon. I will be having the drive paved in three weeks and a culvert replaced so I`am a busy guy here. The 450 blower should work great on a paved drive I think,I can scrape the bottom and have no ice buildup. We will leave after lunch. Have a great day.

Allen:
I would have changed the first post if I'd caught the error in the 30 minute repost window.. Note I did try to bring it to your attention later. Sorry (the weekend help isn't always the greatest)

.

The cross references that are out there say 21/32" x 88 1/2" ..or as Myron noted 5/8" x 88 1/2"...

Charlie,
Nice loader, even though it has two arms.

Nice seeing you last week. I should make that trip more often. Hope you make it to \Montrose. If you do there will be a steak on the grill waiting for you amd your better half.

CHARLIE - How wide is that bucket? Looks to be about 72"? The BIG snow bucket for the Stan-Hoist loader on my M is only 80 inches. Even with chains it was prety helpless until We added 1000# of iron to the back wheels.

The Quick-attach bucket is pretty cool!
