Wayne - Could it be that the rod needs adjusted and new pads put on ?

Had a lucky cub day yesterday. I ran across a CCO with a deck, blower, dual wheel spacers, 3 sets of tires, and chains for $300. Only downside is the the engine is shot. it supposidly ran but we tried to start it and all we got was dark blue smoke. So hopefully i can picker up this week sometime.

Calvin - As an additive yes - as a REPLACEMENT for oil NO it's to thin.

Wayne - Here's my 129 short spring

Wayne, here's a photo of a return spring on a 1450. I know I have a photo of the long return spring somewhere...

1450 weight/ loading into 1/2ton pickup w/ ramps?

Sorry in advance for all the questions today...

I’ve just bought the 1450 (44” inch deck) and now need to get it between my place and the fiancées to cut her grass too. I’m wondering the weight of the 1450, or at least if it’ll be alright in a ½ ton pickup? I’m guessing it’ll fine – but just wanted to double check.

The other issue is loading it. I was looking at the ATV ramps that you can pickup at Tractor Supply. The weight would play a factor here also….

So, assuming the ramps can be used, I’m wondering how much luck others have had with them? I would assume it would be best to back truck to small hill, where ramps would actually be almost (or) parallel to ground. (Tailgate removed) I’m just wondering if there are any issues loading using the ramps?

Thanks,

Wayne, another view of the 1450 return spring, same tractor before restoration. Tractor belongs to Chris Bennett.

Calvin - You'll be getting a bill for all the questions

The 44" deck probably wont go between the fender wells of a pickup since they are usually 48" gap. The weight is no problem for the truck. (even ferd!)
Ramps are dangerous if they slide or you miss the width so BE CAREFUL.

Kraig - You didn't like my rusty 129 pic ?

One more thing on the ramps ... Don't forget to add your weight to the Cub weight to determine ramp capacity.
Kraig will throw the weight up when he finds it ... I can't remember close enough to say.

edit: Told ya ... I thought it was 600+

double edit: Kriag is that with/without deck ?

I need dimensions for item 3 from the picture below:

Also, I can't tell if this part has through holes, threaded studs, or what? This is for the 3 point lift from a narrow frame - a 123 to be exact. I want to fabricate this part.

KENtucky, I wanted to show the two holes in the bracket, as it's the same as on Wayne's 1250.

Wayne, I wonder if that roll pin in the cast part on the rockshaft is partially sheared causing it to be rotated farther to the rear.

Compare the location of the roll pin to the other roll pin in the shaft as shown in KENtucky's and my photos below. If the two are not in alignment it is likely sheared.

Wayne S,

I think there were two different tension springs used on Hydro Quietlines depending upon serial number. Early ones used the short spring on the right side same as the 8/9 series. Later QL's and all 82 series hydros used a long spring on the left. Later QL's came with an internal brake in lieu of the caliber brakes and I think that's when the spring configuration changed. Check out the FAQ link at the top of the page and then to Charlies "cubfaq.com" link. Question #30 shows both types of springs. Weird thing is in the Parts Lookup link it only shows one sping available "732-3010" for the QL and 82 series hydros which I believe is the long spring. If you look at a 129 or 149, it lists the short spring part number as "732-3015." Chris Westfall's web site link at the top of the page actually shows a picture of the short spring on page 3 of his Cub Cadet Parts but he lists the part number as "932-3015" so not sure which number is correct. Hope this helps.

Kraig - The pin and tab don't change relation ... but it does look like it is drilled at a different rotation angle.

Terry - I've got one laying in the shop if Kraig doesn't have the size info.

Ron, thanks for the link, I knew I'd seen the other style long spring somewhere. I have the photos in my archives somewhere as well. So many photos, so little time.

Ron - I think ya nailed it !

Kraig - You will have measurements

Terry - Hang on ...

Hi Folks.
Was wondering if the person with the steering repair kit would want to rent the ream, drill and sell me one tapered pin. (Can't see spending all that cash for one repair. The owner would see his repair cost go down).... I would buy it as security and pay for the pin and use of the kit.
Joe

KENtucky, I believe you may have hit upon something. I think the cast part may have been replaced in Wayne's 1250. It's different than the one in your 129 and the one in the 1450 photos I posted. It appears to be different than the one in the FAQ photos as well.
