I have a cub 70 I restored and I'm trying to hook up a regulator, the wiring for the cub 70,100 is the yellow wire F terminal, the gray
wire Bat terminal, the light blue wire GEN terminal and the light green to the L terminal (ignition switch) but my regulator doesn't have a L
terminal so what do I do with the light green wire so my tractor charges properly? it has a GRD. terminal though.
 
Does anyone know what the speed range of the early Cub Cadet tillers are? As in the number of RPM's the tines spin at...? Thanks!
 
Bummer - I got the K301 from grandson's 1250 cleaned up and ready to reassemble when I noticed a crack reaching almost to the exhaust valve. Question: How long do you think it'll take to make it the rest of the way to the valve? At this point, I'm going to go ahead and put it all back together and run her, but wondering how soon I should start watching for (or advertising for) another block?

Greg L. Generally drilling a hole(s) at the beginning or end of a crack stops it from migrating. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Greg Lippert (Glippert),if I were you i would find another bock and rebuild it. I think you will have problems with the crack and won`t last.Just my .02 later Don T

Tjanssen: How did you convert the spindle over to accept the hub?
 
GREG L. - I think DON T. gave You good advice. That corner of the block is the most thermally stressed part of the whole engine, and if You look the K301 block over close You'll see Kohler tried to keep that corner as separate as they could from the rest of the engine by using thin sections of iron around the exh. valve and port. That block probably had some sort of big muffler or straight pipe on it that wasn't supported that started the crack. Richard's idea of drilling a hole at the inside end of the crack won't work since it's already inside the combustion chamber. K301's are relatively cheap & easy to find, I would try to find a different block. It WILL run for a while, then fail catastrophiclly when the whole corner of the block breaks off. It could run for a couple minutes or a couple years, depends on how it's used, but gray iron propogates cracks and it will continue to the counterbore for the valve seat insert.
 
Richard/Donald/Dennis - Thanks for the advice. I knew in my heart that was the answer, but was kinda hoping I was wrong. I won't waste my time putting it back in the tractor.

I was anxious and put the head back on and torqued it already - can I reuse that new head gasket? I do have another new one I can use, but if this one is OK to use on a different block I hate to be wasteful.

Mine is missing the flat plate portion(but have the lever), so I guess I need to mock something up to make it work.
 
One more thing - is a K301 a K301 no matter what model Cub it came from? Or do I need to specify that it's for a 1250?

GREG - K301 in a 1250 has the "AQS" suffix. I think You'll find You need another AQS style block for the PTO clutch & bendix style starter to mount up to. I think the head gasket could be reused that Your torqued down already. They're not really considered "Used" until the engine has been run up to operating temp.

Another reason I don't care for Quiet-Lines. They're almost as much different as the red tractors!

Check with the sponsors above as they can fix you right up with a new curvey dump valve spring lever in nothing flat. The new reproduction ones are thicker then the old IH OEM spring levers and will never break or cause you a problem ever again once you install it.

i always wondered about a stack on my cubbie.....snapping it off and destroying the block. seems like it would only be in the way,like useing the tractor for work. a lot of pointless stress there on the exhaust port.
 
GREG - I like the red tractors. Took Me a while to find the 982 I wanted but I really like it.

The thing with the Q/L's is they seem to have almost as much "not in common" with all the other yellow/white tractors as the original 1963 to 1965 tractors.
 
Ok Ron, I'll check into it. I need the runners for my deck also. Both sides gone and it tends to dig in a bit. Not bad if you have a level yard........but I surely don't!

Hay John i put a stack on my 125 and it is pretty solid i can shake the hole tractor by the stack. it is also all removable. I wielded a muffler and a resonator out of a R@R Hot Rod Tip and it sounds Cool.
