HELP! im stuck.

i must be missing something obvious and will feel really stupid when i get the answer.

model 128, 12 HP Kohler, K301A.
I am trying to remove the shrouds and clean the cooling fins, (i can see a huge mouse nest under the shroud).
the front shroud, where the flywheel is, how do you take it off, after the bots are removed ? it hits the pulley, which i believe is the drive shaft for the transmission. or it might be the rear power take off.
can that assembly be moved back somehow?

the thing i am hitting is the clutch.

i do not see any way to get the shroud to move forward and pass over the clutch.

Frank S.-

Unbolt the motor and slide it forward...There's 4 bolts on the underside of the frame.

ge Ken thats a fine fish lol. where have you been! ? let me be the first to say i duck when ever i see a post with jb weld lol . good to see you back. later Don T

thanks "Matt Gonitzke (Mgonitzke)".

i realized unbolting the engine was an obvious choice, but in reading the service and operator manuals, there was no mention of moving the engine, so i assumed i was missing something.
even engine disassembly does not mention moving the engine.

Frank S,

To add to what Matt said... the back two bolts are easy to see. The front two bolts are above the front axle in the channel the axle rides in. The easiest way to get to those is to put the front of the tractor up on jackstands so you can pivot the axle to make more room. Also a racheting box end wrench works the best. My fionce' bought me a set of GearWrenches for me for Christmas, one main use to get to these bolts.

Man - great day! ... Beautiful blue sky, warming up, used the 129 on the lawn and to top it off, KENTUCK shows up !!!!!!

i found the bolts under the axle, and figured out jacking up the front, removing the tires, then pushing down on the axle would give me enough room.
just when i was congratulating myself for being so smart and figuring that out on my own, i realized im not that smart.
engine doesnt move very far with the front pto belt for the mower attached.
i didnt figure that out until i investigated why the engine would rock, but not move and felt like something was pulling it down.

oh well. guess i will read up on mower detaching and try again tomorrow.

Took the 147 out today for some seat time. The gas tank was half full and going up a hill it stopped running and would not fire up. I added some fuel, and no problem. Has this happened to anyone else? Also, it breaks up under load at full throttle. Under load: mower engaged, fast ground speed and uphill.

Greg:
Was this load related (like really lugging up the hill) or more something just to do with it being tilted? Under NORMAL circumstances, the only thing I can think of "tilt" related is the carb and that could be a couple of things...If you were on a really, really steep angle, the tank could have been lower than the inlet to the carb...(I had a Model A Ford pickup that had a cowl gas tank - I put a Stromberg 97 on it and found out that liquids seek their own level - the bowl of the carb was about the center of the gas tank..). The other possibility tilt related is water or some other FOD in the bowl of the carb..pull it and clean it out.
If it is load related, well, that wouldn't really be related to putting more gas in the tank, except for the time it took you to get the gas can, which would have allowed time for it to cool off. If it was, you could start looking for bad coil, incorrect carb setting getting the engine too hot or other tuneup related issues...

H o l y c r a p !!! Ken...you're back. Good to see ya post...gonna be around a while ? By the way, nice fish. I haven't caught one like that in probably 10 years or so.

The 73 hasn't been charging so I spent the day with my meter checking everything. Had a few regulators I tested, generators tore apart and cleaned and tested. Couldn't find anything wrong so I tested everything again. Tested every wire in the harness thinking something must be grounded or not showing continuity then checked it again. Figured it had something to due with the drive shaft getting hungry for wiring harness. After wasting 4 or 5 hours I came to the conclusion that it had everything to do with the drive shaft....yep..the moron who fixed it put a wire in the wrong place

boy did I feel STUPID after I found that.
