This should make some good reading in the library,800 pages of bearing #s and nomenclature.

Terry,

You are not supposed to be getting rid of them, you are supposed to be buying more! (Yellow and white ones, and sometimes red)

Terry - you didn't say how they were really outfitted. I'm particularly not prone to 147's because of the electric lifts, but if your lift has been overhauled it's probably good for along time. If you haven't done anything to the electic lift and don't know if anything has been done, then that's the tractor I'd be moving along. Now, the way you worded your post it sounded as tho the 126 was not in quite as good condition as the 147. But I don't know what that means. If you're talking appearance only and the electric lift on the 147 is overhauled and known good then I'd be keeping it. It was the top of the line in it's era. I do happen to like 12hp engines and the 126 can be a nice unit to keep as well. Both units were prone to wiring harness problems so if one has a newer/replacment harness I'd lean toward keeping that one. It's your decision of course, and like so many others on here I'd just keep both if you can. Herd thinning should really be done until you get up to 20 maybe 25 units (if Frank gets to that number he'll stop looking in the papers).

Charlie,

Here's something to warm you on those cold snowy days. I/we took these this evening.

Making sure at least one pic wasn't blurred:

Harry - the 147 is waiting on primer, paint and reassembly. Fresh k321 and rebuilt electric lift. Perfect sheet metal, new dash tin and Nos front decal. 126 is a nice original tractor - runs great but not quite as nice as the 147. Have a 122, O, 73 also so not hurting for gear tractors. Had a 127 till I got the 127. Seemed redundant given the 147 so cherry picked it for the 147. That's my story and sticking to it!

Terry-If you are torn between selling ONE Cub, imagine how I feel!!! haha. Frank hit it on the nose. I know I need to sell about 20 tractors, but I still look at the classified numerous times a day trying to find another one...you should just keep both. Heck, they're bought and paid for, arent they?

Frank- Good news, went to the dealer today and got my tiller belt. Hope to have it all together this weekend.

Terry D - My vote is to keep both. Reason I say this is for several reasons.

When I was a normal person (if that's possible) and had my other color RED tractors, I had a gear drive and later a hydro (still have them too!). That satisified my want for both gear and hydro. But in my neck of the woods, sometimes snow and mow overlap, so I would keep the mowing deck on one and a snow blade on the other. Once the grass was done for the year, the deck would come off and the snowblower would go on. In the spring, I'd do the opposite to get back to two mowing machines. With your 126 and 147, you'd have the same deal.

Also - with the 1x6/7 series tractors, you can use the same implements whereas I've got a bit of a delima with a 109/1650 WF tractors and a 126, so right off the bat, different decks, front blades and subframes. Not a problem for me as I am a pack rat, but it is nice to be able use the same attachment on different model tractors. Another reason for keeping both is you concentrate your knowledge base on one tractor design.

Harry B - how am I doing? Trying to offer-up some quick answers tonight...

Looking at this 147 pic (brazenly stolen from TractorData.com),

I can't decide if it looks sad or mean or inquisitive. Also wondering about the "correctness" of the seat (Hydro Harry should kick in here pretty quick). Narrow front tires would be an improvement.

Frank-
That seat isn't factory correct, but I agree, that rig does have a certain meanness about it!

On my 147, I have installed all new tires and wiring and a new number 30 carb. Some said wiring is an issue with a 147 and I think any tractor of that age the wires are beyond being reliable.I don`t use the 147 because I sure it still has balance gears and I need to pull the engine to see for sure.I did refurb it a few years ago and it needs nothing. All the drive train has been looked at repaired or replaced ; Manual lift is the only draw back with it.But I do have everything here to make it hyd lift ; just not the time yet.I did score a spring assist with my last 4 tractor buy.I now have a few gear drives so I got the hydro or gear drive thing addressed.

Frank ;Thanks for sending that engine over here ! Just another job for me to do . I`am giving a tractor to a friend who helps me with my tractors.
I have two tractors here that I have yet to find out what they are . both are Cubs . one is a std and one a hydro. They sat out the winter in my cargo trailer and if we get some good weather soon I will dig them out and post a few pictures .

Has anybody got anything to add to putting a tiller on a 147 with manual lift ? will spring assist help much? should I have hyd lift for a tiller ? will new turf tires work well with the tiller ? or do I need ag`s thanks Later Don T

Seats correctness are not a big deal here Frank /Art lol. The 147 has a plastic seat and some day will get a proper seat. But the plastic one will out last any other. My 147 just after I put on 200$ in tires.

I see I need to take a more up to date picture and bring my profile up to date this summer

Don: You're welcome! That ball's in your court. Since I'm opinionating tonight (free beer - American or I'd be long gone by now) I'd rather not see you put that tiller on a manual lift. We're not getting any younger/stronger, ya know.

Bill J - you're doing pretty good there with quick answers, but I think you should expound a bit more.

Frank - please give that pic back to Tractordata.com. That dang 147 (if that's what it really is) looks so sad to me. The front tires look flat (but it could be shadows), and the seat looks like it was cut and pasted with some silly little single point mount - it ain't no metal pan seat. And once you send the pic back please put a block on your computer so you can't access data from that site again. No information is better than wrong information.

Don T - please don't go using a manual lift with a tiller. I did it twice with a 122, and you can do it but it certainly put the Strong in Armstrong lift (which Frank is really pointing out), but worse yet, the dang lift lever handle kept flexing and I just decided I wasn't going to bend it. I know you probably have a later lift lever handle on your 147 that will probably have a bigger pipe to it, but even those will bend. A spring assist will really help your arm but it still doesn't do much for the lift itself. Either get your electric lift installed or get a hydraulic lift, and save yourself and save your tractor problems.
And by the way, I like the looks of those front tires on your 147. What's the brand/model? If you got the front and matching rears for C$200 you got a steal.

Geez, and I almost forgot - my son said this thing was following him home and then made a left turn and missed his drive way. Have you guys seen one before? Info on it seems to be a little obscure. Seems to have been made by Jiffy Products but it was done for a Cub Cadet and may have been an IH sanctioned implement. Anyone seen/heard of it, know how well they operate?
(under edit - sorry I did a search and see they did come up couple years ago)

Thanks guys for the feedback on the 126 vs 147. Woke up at 3:00 this morning and decided it was time for that dreaded decision. Decision rendered!

Cub Original spring trip blade question: it's my understanding that the spring trip for the O uses the sleigh style bracket and the mount that the rod running through the frame attaches to. My question is - aside from those unique mounting components is the actual blade the same as on the later models. Thanks

Terry - was the 126 the one I drove around the yard? If so, she's a good runner!
