... a body can't even talk about tachs without some know it all coming in and posting mower pics ... boy I swear ...

Here's a schefflera bonsai I started from a cutting back around 1986. After it had some nice long roots I planted it over this piece of limestone.

I really liked this rock and pine that I photographed in the Rocky Mountain National Park near Estes, Colorado in June 2005. Sure wish I could have hauled it home...

Here's a few rocks I piled up along the Lake Superior shore in the Porcupine Mountains in the UP of MI a few years back. I thought it looked like a sailing ship.

DAVE, KEN - Back off-topic, but with those tachs I posted the link to you can check RPM on almost anything, much more useful. And any white paint mark, chalk mark, or any reflective tape works, and it doesn't need to be over 3/16" to 1/4" square. I doubt I ever use up the three strips included with the tach. SON never thought "HIS" M was running fast enough, I could slowly outrun him with my Super H in road gear. So we checked the M from the PTO shaft, and it's actually running the right speed. We also confirmed the engine-driven tach on the Super H was accurate within 5-10 RPM.

Seems like I got mine off amazontools.com or someplace like that. But they're all made in China anyway and $50 to $60 each for the basic model.

KRAIG - I thought we had BIG ROCKS in WI until a couple yrs ago when We went to Colorado. It is very pretty up around the Dells.

Ken
I leave brown footprints walking in the yard today. It wouldn't be pretty if I mowed now.
Ever have a day that you just aren't getting anywhere?

Kraig: There's rocks, there's outcroppings, and there's Special. This is Special:

Jerry: Can you explain the hole in that rock? ("Cute" little funny looking green/yellow things, btw).

After retirement I worked as a favor for a friend for two years in a rock business. We sold landscaping stone, steping stone, flagstone, and building stone. We shipped rock all over the united states. We had people harvest the stone in Tenn. And Kentucky. I wish i had took and kept a lot more pictures of things i seen in the rocks. The moss and liken are very desireable on most landscaping stoned. The pink and the pink and brown striped flagstone is quaried abour 40 miles south of me. The flagstone near me is blue except where the water leeches in and turns it brown. I had to keep my wife away from the rock yard. She wanted to many rocks in the lawn.
Just rambling.

Dennis, I understand, the link you provided would be more versitile. Me and dad used to set engines by ear then bet on how close we were, almost never money more bragging rights. It ain't about upgrading.
More on subject, local rock for landscapeing has a few blue (ish) tints. Rock out of the Mississippi has a redish look to it. Landscaped for a couple seasons years ago. Used to love stone walls and new sod jobs. The difference you could make on a property was/is impressive.

Jerry, was that hole used for blasting? Just a few miles (ok 20 or so miles) north of me there's a trap rock (basalt) quarry. I've seen several large pieces of trap rock locally that have holes like that. Nice rock!

Frank, thanks.

Luther, ramble on.

There's a stone supply business about 3 miles south of my property. Fun place to stop and browse. I need to stop by there and order some more limestone for a retaining wall.

RE..hole
A friend from the local quarry brought that to us. The hole was drilled for blasting I presume. He took the bigger one home to his place.
Frank..Every coin has two sides!

Jerry, I gotta ask, when that rock was delivered, did they use the hole to hoist it?

Got a funny phone call from Dad early Sat. morning about 15 yrs ago. "Come out here to the farm, bring your shovels, all your chains, gloves, etc.

My Grandfather's farm had a Pink Granite rock in the barnyard my Uncle always admired. Took about five hours of digging, hoisting, chaining and sweating to get that rock about 3 ft x 2 ft x 2 ft out of the ground and chained to Dad's little cart for the trip down to Blunier country. Dad hauled it down the week after we loaded it, went over the scale at the local feed mill, weighed almost 1000#. Our chain hoist was only rated 500#. Needless to say the cart was Extremely over-loaded as well! Sad to say NO Cub Cadets or other power equipment was used in extracting the rock either!

I like the kind that Kraig doesn't.

hope it looks ok , I had to reduce the size 50% 3 times then save it at 30% reduction

KEN - Where's those last three pic's from? Almost looks like something from the parkway thru Smokie Mtn Nat'l Park.

Dennis - That's pics of my driveway, I just had it graveled....

If you've heard anything on the news in the past few years about Wolfe Creek Dam and the possibilities that it may break and wash out Nashville ... (they need that right?) ... well this is the result of them keeping Cumberland River low for dam repairs.
This is below Laurel River Lake (my fishin hole) dam just prior to joining the Cumberland.
See the tree line - that's how much it was down then !

This pic is going up Cumberland which is below Cumberland Falls (Niagara of The South)

All the pics in my Pipe Bending Thread where we were on that flat bedrock with the TOY and Jeep are about 3 miles up river above Cumberland Falls.

Jerry - How many engineers did it take to figure out that the hole would lift the rock ?
Matter o' fact ... how can a "hole" lift anything ? A "hole" is nothing , it's gone , it's void of anything.

Kraig - I watched a show on the Documentary Channel last night that I thought you'd like soes I 'corded et fer ya. I had to record it with Media Center as my DVD recorder went dead from a lightening spike. I'm converting it now to DVD but it'll be 2 disc. Setting the timer to the listings time was a ****oo. Two hour setting for an hour and 38 minutes made the file to big for 1 disc.
