Art do you have a updated data sheet? and does Charlies get an asteric??

Jeff - I suppose since there ain't many of us to celebrate we won't see to many posts here. I vote for at least posting pics of everyones 169.
Now, I wonder where Art is?

HARRY - Do You suppose Charlie would mind if I started a dedicated IH 982 topic? And then I'd start a dedicated #72 topic too.

Dennis, I don't think he would care, that is until some whiner or whiners emails him complaining.

I am going to call September 9th 1974 the birth date of my 169

Jeff: Been there, done that, got the

Made me feel right at home!

P.S. Sept. 9, 1974 was a Monday.

Charlie must be busy with his rebuilding project... No need for <FONT COLOR="ff0000">I</FONT><FONT COLOR="000000">H</FONT> Cub Cadet related posts to be here in the Sandbox...

So,, Monday September 9th 1974 IH built the finest garden tractor of that time period.

now back to the main page

Dennis - this is an "Anniversary" topic thread. Nothing else. We ain't talking about repairs, blunders, thing-a-ma-jigs, etc. Just anniversary or birth month, and possibly actual birthday stuff. I don't know how Jeff came up with an actual birth "date" (Monday, Sept. 9). I think the best I can get is the actual month and best guess if it was the start, middle or end of the month.

I'm hoping Charlie won't have a problem with this thread, seems Kraig don't think so.

You know where Art is? He's been noticeably absent.

Frank - what's your birth month?

Harry: Personally, 65 years ago this month.
Andy (527780) I have pegged as October, 1974.
I was going to email you to thank you for starting this thread but I'll do that now, while I can.
By his 40th birthday, Andy should have hydraulic lift and be able to take the place of the 149 that just left here. By the grace of the powers that be this thread will still be here - and I'll have pics to post.

Harry I just liked 9/9,,,
in reality my 169 was probaly built in the first week.

Cub numbers for march built were 3043 divided by lets say 23 workday that month is about 132 per day

Also I dont think this has to be 169 birthday specific, add any IH Cub Cadet

Ok Jeff - I want'a know where Art is. We need his update and details.

After some re-calculations based on Frank saying Sept 9 was a Monday, and using your calculations that 132 units were built per day (and not all necessarily model 169's since the 1x8/9 series was supposedly still in production), this would mean the Sept production started at Serial No. 522764 on Monday Sept 2, then I make it that yours would have been built on Wed Sept 4.

Now, here is MY TAG with Serial No. 523760 which would make mine built on Wed Sept 11.

Now here is where the apple doesn't fall far from the tree (or some would say a chip off the ole block), here is my son's tag Serial No. 523764 which is the 4th unit right after mine. As I mentioned before there is a chance my son's unit could have been the next Model 169 built (if the other 3 units in between happen to be other models from the same series).

Harry B - nice looking 169's and great thread!

How did you manage to scratch-up the s/n tag and yet not do the same to the paint....

Also got my 100 point glasses on this morning and noticing the paint color from your tractor and your Son's is pretty different....

Probably the lighting...

All this talk about 169's - maybe one of these days I'll find one and give it a try. Ought to handle a 50 inch deck and high grass with ease!

Bill QQ - I've never been able to figure out a way to restore the tag. Got any suggestions?
And you're right about the paint color - it has to be the lighting. My son's is obviously original. For some reason mine appears to fade in the picture over time (can you believe an electronic picture fades?). The actual tractor color is perfect. Look at the side by each picture at the very start of the string and you'll see my 169 right next to the CC Museum Curator's.
As for you picking up a 169, it only gets harder the longer you wait. You know they only made 4005. The longer you wait the harder it is to find one still around.

Michael M - what happened to your brake pedal? And one other thing, I did the calculation on your serial number and it appears your unit could have been built on FRIDAY, Sept 13, 1974.

Ok, I sent an e-mail to Art but so far he's missing in action.

Harry PO got creative and made a foot control hydro. The frame is junk only the rear end and motor top heat sheild. The motor is a wide base 16 going to use a QL block and cover the dipstick hole.I have a better wide frame frame to use.

Ryan McShane found three in a short time frame. I actually bought one at an auction in Des Moines for him. I thought about keeping it for myself however with two 1650s and 14 hp 129 needing finishing touches and other projects it just didn't seem right to keep it.

Harry B - I'm thinking that you need to take your serial tag, have it stripped, painted and re-etched.

I saw a 169 for sale about 5 hrs away from my neck of the woods not long ago. Something's got to go before I bring in another tractor - sigh!
