Had a low oil engine stop on my 2166. added oil back to good level now it runs till the engine is warm and stops. when it cools it will start and run until warm.
changed the oil pressure sensor thinking ,well just may be that is the problem, but still stops when engine warms.
it has a kohler 17hp horizontal engine , drive shaft version.
I need to be pointed in a good direction, Thanks

Still confused. You say it "turns over fine" but also "give it 3 hours and it will crank". Will it turn over IMMEDIATELY after it dies, or do you have to wait several hours before it turns over?

single cylender . I said 16 hp but it is a 17 hp, I really like the thing so I am hoping to find the problem. It is an older machine but has been a good one.
Thanks for your help

I'm wondering if what was thought-out as a low oil shut down was a dying coil from the get-go

Especially considering that model is not equipped with a low oil shutdown if I remember right. All of the 2000 series I have encountered with Kohler engines just had a pressure switch that would turn on an ***** light to let you know it's too late to save the engine.
