2166, runs and stops

Had a low oil engine stop on my 2166. added oil back to good level now it runs till the engine is warm and stops. when it cools it will start and run until warm.
changed the oil pressure sensor thinking ,well just may be that is the problem, but still stops when engine warms.
it has a kohler 17hp horizontal engine , drive shaft version.
I need to be pointed in a good direction, Thanks

Engine turns over just fine, no extra noises from the motor Its like there is a safety switch activated. no spark to the plug.
It had run just fine till the low oil and it shut down. give it 3 hours and it will crank

Still confused. You say it "turns over fine" but also "give it 3 hours and it will crank". Will it turn over IMMEDIATELY after it dies, or do you have to wait several hours before it turns over?

yes the engine turns over but will not start give it a while it will start and quit after it warms up

James,Just guessing but an overheated coil will do that,but I'm thinking "old school "coils.Your saying no spark when it quits so it's a maybe..

I will check on that . I will have to locate it. I have a wiring diagram but it is as readable as a New York may, maybe as understandable as that map

James,coil is under shroud.engine schematic will show where.I'm only assuming it's a twin kohler

single cylender . I said 16 hp but it is a 17 hp, I really like the thing so I am hoping to find the problem. It is an older machine but has been a good one.

Have you tested for spark immediately after it quits?

yes, and even changed the plug just in case

The odds are good it's the coil.Not too expensive ..set gap about .010..old microfitch works perfect for that,if you can find some

check spark, none replace the coil

Especially considering that model is not equipped with a low oil shutdown if I remember right. All of the 2000 series I have encountered with Kohler engines just had a pressure switch that would turn on an idiot light to let you know it's too late to save the engine.
