Curious, what is the button on the points cap for?

Got the plug to produce spark now, touched it to the clutch pedal and cranked. Not huge spark by any means, but it sparks.
Can't get the tractor to fire yet though.
Plug is dry after cranking though.....aren't they supposed to be a bit wet in order to fire?? I have flooded gas out breather side of carb....so thinking float is not working now?
Just to clarify your statement... you are getting gas dripping out of the Caburetor and at the same time your spark plug is still dry after cranking the engine? Yes?

Yes, sadly. So it's flooding out I would say? Float not floating??
This is with the brand new carb installed.
New fuel bowl/sediment bowl on bottom of gas tank, new coil, new condenser, new points. Previously replaced coil wire and plug. Bought a new plug but wrong size, same number but my plug has a fat butt that threads into head. The new one I got is too narrow.

My next move would be to unscrew the bowl and see if fuel is in bowl and continues to run out passed the needle valve. If fuel is running then shut it off.
With the carb still on engine. Can you pull the Float Pin and take the float and needle valve off carb. Does the new float have gas in it? If you drop it in water does it float?
these questions should help resolve the Flooding out the carb.
******* dry spark plug ******
I'm using my knowledge of general , small engine, carburetors. Excuse me if yours is different.
The Nut holding the carburetor bowl on is also the Jet. Make sure the two holes close to the hex shape are clear. Make sure the hole down the center is also clear and is drilled all the way down to the ones nearest the hex.
There should be a very small hole on opposite side of Hex, just where the threads stop. Make sure its clear. Welding Tip Cleaners are great for this stuff.
When putting the bottom of carb back together, only 1 'cardboard' Washer. If the Washer is too thick the two holes in the Nut will not be in the fuel at bottom of bowl.

Question...is this a brand new carb or a good used one? Trying to understand if the Emulsion tube might be clogged with old gas or rust.
Have tried a lityle Starter Fluid in the air cleaner side of carb to see if it wants to run?

Oh trust me, the pencil on your desk has more knowledge on small engines than I do. I only know enough to be dangerous, hence all the difficulties I have when it comes to engines. So anything you have to share will be grateful.

Carb - brand new, out of box from Cub dealer. Its a knock off, no names on it so I'm guessing its China? Perhaps not rebuilding the old carb (as mentioned by someone else) would have been a WAY better idea?

I have not taken the new carb apart yet. I turned off the gas at the tank to see if anything would happen - but that's another issue, I am wondering if its even shutting off to be honest.

It got to the point I was so discourage yesterday, I just rolled it aside in the garage and took the 982 out to blow the fresh 3" of snow we got over night. I had high hopes of using the blade on the 100 mentally while having coffee yesterday. Was shooting for a very productive day. Not so much.

I'll have to take carb apart and check it out more closely as suggest.

The flooding out the Carb Intake tells me the the float is sinking OR the needke valve is stuck in the Open position. Sometimes a little smack with a screwdriver handle solves the problem. The dry plug is interesting. Is the Main jet (the one on top with the spring on it) unscrewed one full turn? If its acrewed all the way down, gas cannot flow.

Yes, something certainly not right.

Generally speaking, if you screw both the Main Jet and the Low Idle Jet in until the stop then unscrew each one 1.5 turns..the engine will run.
Out of curiosity, count how many turns each Screw was turned out from the factory, as you screw them in.

Is the Choke Cable closing the Choke Plate? Throttle cable working too?

Ok, will count what it is currently set at.

Yes, choke plate closes correctly and both it and throttle cable moves freely as they should. Throttle cable is set exactly the same as old carb was.
