I have a cadet 107 that has sat now for 2 years. I absolutely love my little Cub cadet. However, a few years back, it would runwell for about an hour and then if I went up a small incline it would stall out and not start back up. Not sure if it was a carburetor or the old wiring That was shorting or not allowing the battery to Is charge. I have purchased a new wiring harness and was gonna install it. However, the current wiring harness looks completely different than any of the wiring diagrams I currently have. so The question was, do I want to do a full restore? Do I just want to get it running? Or once I get into it Is there things that I should do change update, Sand blaster and paint. So by not making a decision? I have done nothing. Can any one suggest what they've done? What approach they've come to I basically just want to use it to cut the grass and haul things around the yard, but I wouldn't mind also, taking it to an old iron and power show and what have others done to get motivated to store on the project where would be the best place to start? And how would you take your approach to the starting process?. Thank you

If it were me, I'd tear it apart, clean and buff everything, replace wiring, look at all the things you can't easily get access to while it's assembled, rebuild the carb, clean the fuel tank and replace the lines... reassemble and enjoy.

With a full restoration you will risk getting started and not finishing because if you're anything like me, something else pops up that needs attention first.

With what I mentioned doing, if you go to town on it, you can have it looking good and running again in a weekend or two.

Great point I am going to take that approach and for the paint and rust just get what I can easy. I am also a person that will drop the project and move to a priority task not to mention the costs that I might run into, I am still surprised when something small is expensive but it is what it is.
 
As Kendal mentioned above the cloth covered wiring harnesses used on these is often in poor condition and can cause all sorts of issues. From the photos it appears that the wiring is in pretty rough condition. As to the "would run well for about an hour", that sounds like a failing condenser or perhaps a plugged breather vent in the gas cap. It appears that it may have been repainted once before, the foot rests should be black not yellow and the paint pealing off around the sides of the grill casting and elsewhere show a different shade of yellow underneath. The old "it's only original once" doesn't apply here so a repaint might be a good thing. I would start with getting it cleaned up and running good first which will probably require a new wiring harness.
