All that stuff closed up like that is bound to hold some heat! It will be much more quiet, but to me, too much heat.
You thought it was a firewall? The fire is supposed to only be inside the engine!

Actually, you'd be surprised how much air blows out the front. When I was hooking up my snowthrower this past fall I was amazed. It's like a torpedo heater. Really makes it nice to warn up cold hands...
