I did some serial number checking last night, and then checked some of the production tables in Hanks book.

Looks like they made +/-10,000 Cubs total in 1985...yellow/white and red combined. My new machine is 3500 tractors earlier than the last 1985 production number.

Hanks production notes indicate that the yellow 82 series stopped production in 1984 and the only yellow tractors made in 1985 were the 1600/1700 series machines (1600 series '84-'95, 1700 series '85 only).

The last IH farm tractor rolled off the assembly line in May of 1985......

So, with my red 782 serial number being 2/3 of the way through the total production for the year (including all of the 1700 series machines), and IH going to Tenneco on May, this tractor has to be one of the last red tractors made. How close to the end????....who knows???...but it sure can't be far from it....

Not that it means too much to me, just a cool observation....

Cool info Steve.

It's not to my house yet......

You've seen it before, it use to be Shannon Pohl's, then it was Chris E's, now it's mine

.

Added to a nice collection of 1984 82 series, it will feel right at home. My current 782 is an early '84, 582 a mid '84, and this one a mid '85.

The registry across the street lists one red tractor with a serial number 75 higher than this one, so it's not the last red one...but it can't be far from it.

Cool! That was a nice tractor.

We'll be expecting updated pics though.

Speaking of a registry, what do you or anyone else think about a registry for the forum?

Steve, cool info! When you get it home you should take a photo of all your Cubs lined up, that line up should be getting pretty long by now.

Charlie, interesting thought......

Kraig,

Actually it's not much longer than it has been over the last few years...

Running/operational units:

1985 782
1984 782
1984 582
1974 149 w/loader
1964 100

Parts and pieces that could be whole tractors (eventually)....

1981 682/1811 hybrid
1973 149
1973 128

Steve, hmmm, that list is getting more and more red. Which of those does Little Steve like best?

He likes plowing with the 582....

Steve,
I've been to your house, and seen your shed and garage. Where are you keeping all those tractors, implements, and projects? Have you built something new, or have Kraig or Charlie loaned you some tarps?

New 782....

(...and I'll gladly admitt that my early "favorite" the 149, has been firmly supplanted by the 782 dual hyd......the KING of GT's

Bruce,

5 fit in the big shed without too much trouble, even with decks, loader, and tiller installed and a big pile of parts/attachments up the middle....
