I did some serial number checking last night, and then checked some of the production tables in Hanks book.
Looks like they made +/-10,000 Cubs total in 1985...yellow/white and red combined. My new machine is 3500 tractors earlier than the last 1985 production number.
Hanks production notes indicate that the yellow 82 series stopped production in 1984 and the only yellow tractors made in 1985 were the 1600/1700 series machines (1600 series '84-'95, 1700 series '85 only).
The last IH farm tractor rolled off the assembly line in May of 1985......
So, with my red 782 serial number being 2/3 of the way through the total production for the year (including all of the 1700 series machines), and IH going to Tenneco on May, this tractor has to be one of the last red tractors made. How close to the end????....who knows???...but it sure can't be far from it....
Not that it means too much to me, just a cool observation....
