Nonsense. The splines keep the steering wheel clocked upon installation.

You don't know everything, my CC102 has no splines to 'clock' the steering wheel.

PS: Sold my 102 but asked admins if I could stay on just to help those who helped me.
 
What kind of steering wheel did you use? I have yet to see after 20 years of working on Cub Cadets a steering shaft or wheel with no splines.
Beats me. There was a substantial lock washer, flat washer and serious nut to hold all together. When loosened nothing moved. When chiseling the small part that was seized to the hub I was careful to not bugger-up the threads. Can see where splines would have made things easier but I hold no IH grudges, the CC was great, except for this, not a moment of trouble.

There is no 'perception' of a mistake. You have asserted things not in evidence. False information helps no one, and you continue doubling down on it. This forum has historically policed bad information and is better for it. Some other pages I belong to, a guy asks a question and half the replies are incorrect. Not helpful.

I certainly don't know everything, and will never claim to, but every IH Cub Cadet garden tractor ever made was produced with a splined steering shaft with a taper below it, and an nut to retain the wheel on the steering shaft, as shown in the photo Kraig posted on the last page. Every single one of them, including your 102, left the factory this way. I don't know why this is so difficult for you to comprehend, but just because something was altered on YOUR single tractor somewhere along the line before you obtained it, it does not mean that all of them came that way.
 
Like Lewis (and Matt, though he didn't state so) I've been working on Cub Cadets for decades and have never seen one without the splines and tapered hub on the steering wheel and steering column. It was above zero (F) today so I dug out some parts for some photos, steering wheels from a 1x4/5 and/or 1x6/7 series and a steering column from the same.
