Shredding belts

Ok guys new to working on an 1811. Ran the tractor for 2 years without any problem. At the end of last season the pto quit mid cut. I checked and the belt was about shredded. Also noticed that when it shredded, it broke the signal wire to the PTO. Repaired the wire today and installed a new belt. Cut for about 20 minutes and It did the exact same thing (shredded belt and broke the wire at the repair spot) When I installed the new belt the tension pulley on the left (front view) was engaged and acting properly. After the PTO quit again I noticed the belt was pushed against the front guard bracket and causing chaos. Forgive me here, but would the rod to the right of the tension pulley have something to do with this?

The rod is on the opposite side of the pulley.
It should be easy to see where the belt is rubbing.
More than likely you have an issue with the pulleys be misaligned or the deck is out of wack and the belt is at to much of an angle somewhere.
Make sure the mule drive pulleys are running straight back to the deck pulley, and the belt is lined up in the pulleys at both ends.

Make sure both pulleys are free on the cross shaft. I have had them rusted tight before. They need to be free so you can adjust and get proper spring tension. There is a notch in the release on the left pulley in the pic that you need to tighten the threaded rod until the notch is even with the front of the quick attach

Check belt alignment from idlers back to mower deck pulley, belt is not crossing sub frame correctly?? Or is one of the idlers froze up?

I will send pictures tomorrow. The pulley in the left(looking from the front opposite the threaded rod) is the one that is hard against the front guard

The spring will push the right side (of the tractor) pulley against the mule drive when there is no belt installed, or the belt has come off.
