Even though I have had good luck with the China replacement carbs on two of my Cubs, I would go with the rebuilt by the Cub dealer route. In the long run, it will be the wiser choice.

Upgrade Nowalso a novice, i breathed life back into a B&S mower carb by disassembling it and giving everything a good solvent bath + scrubbing then reassembling it with new seals/gasket.I'm a rookie at this. I know nothing about rebuilding a carb. Original carb is really gummed up. It has sat for 30+ years. Local Cub dealer wants $100 to rebuild it. I just replaced the key switch and I now have power to starter. With carb off, I got it to fire by using starting fluid. Now I need a working carb to get it running.

fellas, could one do that with a Cub’s carb too? (assuming the OEM/NOS seals/gasket are available.)
Hi Dan,New topic for my 102...My steering wheel turns 1/4 of a turn before any of the linkage moves. What could be my problem? The steering wheel is also popped up out of the dash about an inch or so.
Ask Digger how to easily pop that steering wheel offHi Dan,
I suspect the cam follower in the "Ross" steering box is worn flat on the sides. It shouId be more of a cone shape. I recently took my steering box apart to find this out. In order to do this you will need to remove the steering wheel and that can be challenging. Then undo the steering box mount underneath the tractor and the steering rod attached to the front left wheel. There is good documentation on this site about the information you require. Happy to help if I can. Sean.
Recently did that on a 108..bought a grade 8 ...1/2 fine thread bolt >Had a buddy lathe a rounded nose on internal end..worked just fine.My experience pulled the whole shaft but I wonder if by removing mounting bolts there is enough room to remove side plate..Any thoughts??
Matt, thanks for reply..Admit I wasn't thinking about brgs..I guess you could, but it'd be very difficult to clean it or replace the bearings and races without removing it from the tractor. It'd be best to just remove it.
Do you know how far the bolt screws into the tank?I would say you made the right decision. Let us know how it goes. We love pics too!
