I got this last year and was trying to found some info on it. Like the year.
Tag under seat says
Model: 136N678F596
MFG code:1B07619-0014
It has a B&S Diamond I/C Commercial 13 HP
Model 28M707
Type 0136-01
Code 960122ZA

Thanks in advance for any help.

Don Lunn: The MFG code says 07 Feb 1996 as the date of manufacture & the 14th unit off the assembly line that day...The character preceding the numeral 9 (is a letter position) is likely a letter "L" indicating the plant at which it was manufactured. Real Cub Cadets are made at Plant G.

This is simply a Cub Cadet painted & badged MTD Lawn Tractor (the LT) sold most likely at a "box store" as regular Cub Cadet dealers did not carry this model.

Go to a MTD dealer and use that model info off the tag under the seat and you should be able to get info/parts manuals etc from MTD.

Any small engine dealer can help you with the engine with the data off the engine tag.

Thanks for the info Myron.
I was told it was a late 70's, early 80's from the person the I got it from. But he said he wasn't really sure.

Thanks again.

Don L..It's quite possible, even likely, that the year is 86. MTD only uses the last digit of the year in the MFG code (6 in this case) and it repeats every 10 years. They are "throwaways" and thus MTD doesn't expect them to last that long, and they usually don't. In fact, the tractor style is more like a private label mower, I once owned, that MTD made in the mid 80's. I'll check that engine code and see if it tells me anything different. Presume it's an 1986 year model unless I or someone else can post some better/differing information.....

Don L: Check that engine code again...the first two digits of the "Code" data is the year of manufacture, according to my B&S book.
The code is read: year, month, day, assy lne & plant. 96/01/22/ZA. Is 96 correct on the engine tag...?? Maybe a replacement engine??

Don L. Would you be able to provide a picture of the shift lever, please? It looks like the slider type instead of a H pattern. Even the front axle looks different. This reminds me of when Massey Ferguson MF10/12 series garden tractors and their little lawn tractors were given a different hood and grille, different paint scheme and called DynaMark.

Thanks for the replies. Here are the pics that I have. The code on the engine is a 9. I do not know if it was a replacement or not.

Marlin: The MFG code definitely makes it of MTD manufacture....Did CCC experiment with those right after IH AG went to Tenneco(CASE/IH)?? Could be. I'll suggest it may be a fairly "rare" example of Cub Cadet's early LT efforts. The Tractor looks mid 80's in styling and corresponds to the PO's reported comment. The engine is definitely of 'Ninety Six (1996) vintage per the engine tag.

Myron,
CCC wasn't selling anything like that in 1986.
In 1986 they were selling lawn tractors that were unique Cub Cadet machines like the 1205, 1220, 1605, 1610 etc. Those tractors at least have some CC features like the CI front axle and greasable spindles. This unit was probably their first attempt at rebadging an existing MTD machine for Cub dealers to sell. I would say it's a 96 and is probably the original engine. I sort of remember talking to our CC rep at an ag show at that time and he pointed these new models out to me.

Todd...It' entirely possible that you're right on the money...but I suspect at that time that Rep was talking about the ones I found on the dealer's floor when I went to work part time at a dealership in 1999 and full time in early 2000 and IIRC, we had the Cadet 1070/1080 as Lawn Tractors at the time. I also worked at local OTASCO (Oklahoma Tire & Supply Co) store in 85-88 and OTASCO sold an MTD made "Longlife" house brand Lawn tractor (persimmon/white) -I bought one- very similar to that LTS125. So rebadging their "private label" lawn tractor as a Cub Cadet for the, then stand-alone, CCC would be no surprise. That MTD's LT design would have stayed alost identical for over 10-15 years is somewhat of a "Huh??", even from MTD...I just have a suspicion that this LTS125 is from the early/mid-80s like the Previous Owner said it was, and with a replacement engine installed....

Hmmmm 1: Click HERE

Hmmmm 2: Well possible Hmmmm, I seem to recall that I have a Yard Man brochure that might have the same style tractor in it. I'll have to see if I can find it tonight.

Terry R: I am beginning to suspect that the only relationship this tractor has to Cub Cadet is the paint scheme and the decalomania.

Myron B

But now there are two of them with that color paint and decal???? However the louvers in the top of the hood are different?

Kraig: Test market prototypes?? Cub Cadet didn't go into the box stores till 2002 with the 1000 series. So, who was selling these things in 1996?? Not a Cub Cadet Dealer!! Wrong dealer code!!

Myron B

Like Terry posted a link to a Canadian site, I found a few more Canadian sites. I'm guessing they sold them in the Great White North only!

AHHHH! They could have at least chosen a different model number!

Don,
I tried looking up the manual on the Cub Cadet site, but it shows the Serial Number or MFG number should have a alpha character in the 6th position, you have listed "1" there. I tried looking up the numbers that were in the link Kraig provided and they don't come up either, even on just the MTD manuals look up.

Seeing as Don's from Canada, I'm guessing no one south of the border has seen these down here.

Don, can you take a pic of the data plate under the seat for us?
