Ive use one of these for about 25 years- self contained, not too messy, the ones I've bought were full of wheel bearing grease..

LUTHER - IH probably had suppliers use those bearing packers to pre-pack wheel bearings, etc with grease. And the smart suppliers had them that were automated. IH used a L-O-T of bearings, most were oil lubed but many were greased as well, like frt wheel bearings. 150 tractors/day times 4 bearings, two in each wheel. Most definitely something IH didn't make either. You look in any IH manual and they liked the idea of "Special Tools" when needed, kept customers coming back to their dealers for service work but they were normally from OTC, or other special tool co's, and normally could be done with creativity and standard tools.

For packing grease in wheel bearings I've always used a needle attachment on my grease gun, has a zerk on one end, a short coupler and a needle like a hypodermic needle about 1-1/2" long that I fit between the roller separator and inner race and give the bearing about half a shot of grease between each roller. Much cleaner than the greasy mess those packers can become when used and don't waste near as much grease. A third hand would be nice greasing them my way but a short piece of vinyl tubing and two small hose clamps becomes my third hand, plus I can store mine in a small sealed can to stay clean.

Kinda like when I replaced the water pump in my IH built 7.3L Powerstroke engine years ago. The service manual said use special wrench such & such. Special number for a 1-7/8" thin open end wrench. While I took the old pump back to get my core deposit back I had the shop pop the fan & fan cutch off the old pump. Their "Special 1-7/8" open end wrench was flame cut out of 1/4" thick diamond tread plate steel. The one I welded up when I got home was a lot nicer looking.

P.O. siad it didn't have any spark. $35.00 for the machine and $7.99 for a new set of points and a couple hours later....It's got spark and runs. Saweet!

Luther - off the shelf at one of my local auto parts stores..

Dennis - I sunno, I learned to pack bearing the hard way - gob of grease int eh palm of your hand, hold the bearing in the other hand and have it "taking a bite" of the grease until it pushed out the other side of the race.. The packers like I use are one heck of a lot cleaner than THAT (and I'm sure of getting a good load of grease through out the bearing.)

Don - uhhh - the blown apart picture pretty much sez it, but from one of the ads for the Lisle 34550 Handy Packer -
"To pack a bearing, place the bearing on the piston...
Press down on the cap until the old grease is forced out and the new grease shows on top of the bearing"

Gerry Ide

Well that clears that up for me , I did not get any instructions with it and was not sure how I was to use the bearing packer . I will have a look at it in the am. Thanks again

Well I needed a donor for my saturn that I posted last week and found this guy about 90 minutes away.
It has a bad computor and was starting to be parted out. It has a new starter and altenator on it.

I got the car for $300 and it is mostly complete minus radiator and drivers airbag the dash was dimanteled trying to retrieve the passanger one, but they gave up on it, he also kept tire and rims but I did not need any of the missing stuff.

He also gave me a new serpentine belt, fuel filter and a haynes book for it, (all new).

Sorry about the small pics, I will get better ones tomorrow.

Looks like you've been doing some shopping. Was that from west of you?

Jeff, Nice haul! Wait, who let you past the Cheddar Curtain?

Jeff are you looking to put the shredder back to (or close to) original? Depending what your plans are with it, I've had pretty good luck with the 6.5hp ohv motors from harbor freight. They're quite inexpensive, honda gx200 parts interchange, they make good torque also. Just an idea. I'm sure others will have more/better input.

Joseph, that is my plans,
Kraig, I slipped thru a hole in the swiss cheese section of the wall LOL...
do you have any info on this 39P shredder?

Jeff-

That looks to be a nice, "refurbable" little unit complete with a #2 trailer. I'd fix it up then find an old McKissic (sp) or an old Kemp to use for the leaves and store the IH unit in the barn for shows. I'm slowly going through my 59M shredder and have it about half finished. When finished it will be set aside and not used since I have two other shredders.

Nice find!

I meant to ask what the long rectangular tray is for? I realize I'm probably just showing my ignorance once again but I've never seen that on one before.

Jeff?...Kraig?...Anyone?????

Wayne, belt guard. Note the photo on the lower right of the datasheet I posted.
