Can't quite read numbers on that tag - it's not on the rear axle - and what's that hour meter doing there?

Do we count fins from top to bottom or bottom to top?

It's got to go into cold storage for now and will probably become a Money Pit but, God bless Jeanne she let me pay $180 for it! This same tractor was advertised 2 summers ago for $700, "restored", but the engine being professionally fixed because "it wasn't quite right". It's here now because I put an ad in our local SellSwapBuy for wanting old Cub Cadets for parts. I don't have enough fingers to type the whole story, but it involves meeting the nephew of a friend I graduated with 45 years ago, then seeing that old friend again today. And so much because of this forum! Frank is thankful, even though his penance (and he's not even Catholic) must be that he has to start drinking cheaper beer.

But, Kraig, I'm still with ya here:

...and it has wheel weights and a reupholstered seat! All for a whopping $180!

Frank - what's the address of that Sell/Swap/Buy newspaper. I want to put an ad in it that says I pay much better prices than Frank. You lucky dog. You count fins from the middle - how many did you come up with? I don't quite understand that twisted up S/G adjusting arm but everything else looks pretty decent and original (not sure about the mowing deck). Even has the original muffler and air cleaner cover. Ooh, when you send me the address for that local paper please also include your cold storage address

Frank you bandit, did you wear a mask?,,,,,nice score

Frank: Am I looking at a 169?

By-the-way, the deck wheels are not standard equipment, but I expect you know that.

If it is a 169, your wife is smart; she figures "you;ll owe HER now" --for some time to come.

J.C.: Yes you are - and also the culmination of a strange set of circumstances. I need it like I need another hole in my head, but evidently sometimes these things happen. It may have a broken conn rod, I haven't done anything but buy it, push it onto the trailer and haul it home. Come daylight tomorrow I'll check it out a little further. It's got to go on a back burner for now. If it hadn't been for the price, it wouldn't be here - after all, it's just an overrated 149 with an engine that's nearly totally incompatible with a K301 or K321. I might even pickle it and wait until the right young feller (Ryan? Matt? Josh?) decides to make a road trip. I know it won't get parted out, and that comment has a lot to do with knowledge I've retained from frequenting this forum.

P.S. First thing I said to Jeanne when I got home was "I really owe you!". She said, "Where's the rest of the money from the check I gave you to cash". So much for sentimental moments!

Marlin: It's why I needed the comfort of your rocking chair last night. I was very antsy to get today done with.

Frank-

Nice score. I bet whomever "professionally" fixed the engine must have forgotten to put the s/g belt adjuster bracket on before the basket pulley. I'm sure you'll find a use and a name for it soon.

Very nice Frank, looks like it spent its life indoors. Now if you want to double your money let me know, then you can have the good stuff

Frank C. Thank You. And should Ryan decide on #5 169 then it won't be too much hassle to get it back to Iowa. I'll start to gently persuade him.

Frank-
Well done sir!

<font size="-2">Now get off your butt and get me some numbers!</font>

Tractor Serial # is 2050048U527780
Engine is a K341A Spec # 71154a
Engine Serial # part of the tag is torn - best I can make out right now is 6324
I'm pretty sure it's a 13 fin.
25* here, this morning, but sunny and warming up so I might know more later.

Looks like engine Ser # is 6324655, if that's enough numbers. Now it's done following me home so we're going to the main forum.

I usedd to use a bearing greaser like this 45 years ago. I found this one at a flea market. The guy didn't know what it was and gave it to me.His dad worked at the local IH dealer and that is where it came from. Was this a IH item? it has no name on it.

Luther, back in the early 70's I worked in a car repair facility and that is the device we used to grease wheel bearings, as is seen in the photo. Its so basic that I would think they would still be in use. Even new bearing assy's out of the box needed additional lube before installation. Yes, free is nice !
