The rubber grip is not all that important function wise, though it may be more comfortable in cold weather. Worst case you can rig it up like the older lifts that used a bail to hold the top button down.

No worries, very much appreciate you checking!Well I should have checked before posting anything about parts. The lift I had in mind is rusted up. The top button does not press down.
That's what I am afraid if (replacement grip being hard/impossible to source). Worst case I was thinking I might be able to rig some sort of cap to hold the pin in if I find myself wanting to float the blade a lot.
