PD update: We got a few inches of rain last night which should help out the soil conditions a lot. The forecast is calling for rain all next week, but the ground in that field is very light. If we don't get drenched, it will still be very good plowing. I will make a decision by Fri morning for those traveling.

Fri night plowing: This is open to everyone that can attend. We had it last year with only a few people due to the fact that I didn't know how it would turn out. It was a blast and I urge everyone to try to make it this year. I will need an email if you're coming (even if you've already emailed) so I know how much food to have.

Now, if I lived 5 miles north of here and we got rain, we'd have problems (heavy, black, black dirt)!!!

Thanks Travis, I needed that update. We are wanting to start out from here in Ohio on Thursday morning. I hope the weather will not force us to stay here for a Friday morning decision as we would like to come out in time for the Friday night plowing. At any rate I am keeping my fingers crossed till then.
Traveling 750 miles sucks, but will be worth the trip if we get to plow.

I am wondering about a secure place to park a trailer load of Deere on Thursday and Friday nights. Super 8 or plow day location???

Travis- I will be there Friday nite work schedule permitting. That was just a good old fashioned Thunderboomer that was had last night. Or at least what I saw of it from apprx. 50 miles SW of your place on 65.

Jim,

Either location is safe, I've ahd my tractors at both sites overnight without issues.

Especially with green tractors. No on wants those

I assume we'll be able to make an educated guess on Thurs. Usually when the forecast rain, we don't get a drop!!!

That would be "Garden Pickles" to you guys. Just remember pickles multiply and grow real fast! So watch out.

Thanks for the updates and I will be watching for more as time gets nearer.

travis i will be out for the friday night plow. i am leaving rockford,il. at 6:00am fri. head to work and then west to plow day!! chris

Travis: I will be there for the Friday night get-together and plowing. Wouldn't miss it.
Jim

I'll stop through Friday night, I've been doing a weekly SE South Dakota to NE Iowa commute while moving. Though my plow's still shiny from over a year ago, moving's going to prevent me from going UNLESS it rains all week and it's postponed.

And if it's postponed I'll probably throw on the project tractor on the trailer. For 3 years or so I've been building a tractor, right now I've just got a red Cub with 3" widened fenders.

Wyatt, good to see you posting again! I should be at Travis' place on Friday, hope to see ya there.

Travis,
Is this a bean field again? Someone was wondering if a colter would be required.

Terry, I don't run a coulter. It does do a lot nicer job with one, but I hate plugging. I think Steve B got his to work good.

The chance of rain for late this week is dropping. Even if we do get a little it will still be OK with that light ground. I hate to push it to next weekend since it's Easter.

Thanks, Travis.

I am hoping the rain will deminish as it gets closer from out west. Looks like we have a chance at a nice Fri/Sat but I want to know why we don't have these on Sunday???

So are you saying we will plow even if there is an 1" of rain Thu/Fri?

Just wanna know what kind of shape the fields are in now and how much rain they can stand. Hoping like you said that it will not be that much rain...

Jim D.

Jim "D",
I don't want to speek for Travis, but I think travel is the #1 thought here. I'm sure most of the guy's headed out to PD are going to work on Friday and then haulin' a$$ (and Cub Cadets) to Iowa. Plowing on Sunday would mean having to take off Monday.

As far as the condition of the field and the amount of rain it can take, no one knows better than the owner.

Yes, we are leaving from central South Dakota on friday, travelling all day to Mason City. Staying friday night, plowing at Travis' all day Saturday, load and head part way home. Then get up and travel the rest of the way back to Pierre on Sunday. Should get back in time to get the Cub unloaded and plowers rested/ready for Monday.

I am looking forward to meeting everyone at PD11. My son, Tyler went to PD10 with my friend, Bryon last fall. Tyler was only 10 yoa, and is still raving about making rounds on the 149 with everyone. (Tyler and Bryon also scored a decent Q42A snow thrower at PD10. That made a few snowstorms out here enjoyable!)

I will make a decision by 8:00 AM on fri morning.

Unless we get dumped on Thurs or Friday it will be fine. The ground in that field is light and well drained. Besides, how often are weather guessers correct???
