Hello everyone from MN, not exactly new to IH Cub Cadets as I’ve rode them when they were owned by family members in that sense, and what I have currently are after IH’s time…

I have an 1864 with a 54” deck that was passed down to me by a friend who didn’t want it anymore. It needed some TLC. The motor was at 1300+ hrs and running hot to the point it would melt the plastic sides. I replaced the motor with another Kohler Ch18 that I found, with 304 hours (plus usual maintenance like oil changes, hydraulic fluid change, etc), and it now runs like a baby and cuts grass very nicely. At some point, I intend to replace the plastic sides and front housing with metal because tabs are missing and they’ve become brittle over time. Right now, some JB Weld is holding them together…

I also have a 2135 HDS with a Kohler 12.5 hp passed down to me by my father in law. Just a hair over 500 hours, runs very nicely without issues, however the mowing deck is in extremely bad shape. There are a ton of gaps from rust, especially some near the spindles and it’s eventually going to fall apart. I’ve been looking for a replacement deck with no luck. It looks like this model takes a 38” deck but I’m wondering if other sizes would fit that this motor would still be able to handle.

1864 is a good machine in my opinion. Have a couple 1862s myself.
I have ran a 38" from a 2135 on my 2185, mainly because it came with a bagger attachment. As far as a I know any deck from those 2000 series should attach especially if you get the lift pieces with it. How well your 12.5 hp will handle them I couldn't say but I would think 46" would work reasonably well.

Please, never again use the rusted deck. It'll be very, very exciting if the deck collapses when blades are spinning.

I was able to find someone who could part away with his 2166 42” deck. Should have get it in couple weeks.
