Well for the most part it sucks because we need rain badly, my water barrels are empty and I am getting tired of watering!
Seems like we went direct from May into August,
Will hate to see my water bill next month!!

Then there are the dam Colorado potato beetles again and I cant seem to get a handle on them this year.
On the bright side I'm no using much gas for lawn mowing as of late!!
And my sweet corn don't look too bad, that is if I can keep it alive!!

Same here with regards to watering, though I have a well so it'll be my electric bill.

On rural water and have been watering the strawberries ever 3 days and the rest of the garden 4-5 days. 90% of the garden and strawberries plants are mulched with grass clippings. Makes a world of difference holding moisture in and weeds down.

Here is my corn (Bodacious)as of last week, it should be ready to pick later this week. Hopefully the coons and the deer won't beat me to it. I planted this in April and when it was about 6" tall we got hit with a late frost and I lost about 20% of the plants.

My garlic scapes (the flower stalk that forms on the tops of some varieties of garlic) are just about ready to harvest. I'll be cutting them off this week. The garlic bulbs won't be ready to harvest until later in July.

We got 1.3” of badly needed rain last evening and some areas nearby had storm damage.
Thankfully no damage here at least but my corn is mostly on the ground now!!
I'd sure like to get at least one crop of sweet corn without having to pick a lot of it on my hands and knees!!

I've got some wind damage from last night too. We are also in severe drought conditions, although finally got about 2" of rain in last few days. Lost a cuke, some corn and peppers pushed over. The rain seems to have perked everything else up.

David there is two things to solve your potato bug problem, Colorado potato beetle beater, by Bonide. Also Bifen/IT works great and is non poisonous. The bifen I/T is what i use on the garden and around the house.

Luther, I have tried several home remedy sprays w/water-dish soap and alcohol and lost track of the # of dustings w/Sevrin, all to no avail.
They just suck it up and keep on munching away!
There needs to be something to nail 'em when the first emerge from the ground before they have the chance to breed and lay eggs.

Corn... Funny, here in the north east corn is only shin high. Planted just after what was the last frost.
I know the world is going organic, no pesticides but I delete the heck out of the gallon jugs of regular household insect spray. Very first sign of beetles I hit things with my pump sprayer. Keeps the potato bugs off my potatoes and pumpkins.

I use the most effective spray on my potatoes before i cover them in the rows. This year i used Bifen I/T and have found less than 1 dozen bugs. My corn will be ready to harvest in two weeks and looking forward to it.

I dug up our garlic yesterday. About 70 bulbs if you include the puny ones. Shouldn't have a problem with vampires for a while!

What variety of garlic is that? I grow a German White Extra Hardy that I bought from Johnnys Seed back in the mid 1990s and another unknown variety that I call "Harland" after the guy I got it from. It's the Harland that grows the scapes. The German White does not produce them, even though the description says they are supposed to. I've often wondered if Johnnys sent me the wrong garlic, though it seems to match the other descriptions. I only bought the garlic once and I have been saving the best bulbs for replanting ever since.

My garlic is still a month out before it's ready for harvest. Up here in Wisconsin late July is typical for harvesting garlic. I did harvest the scapes last night.

I think it's called Texas something. I got them from Burpee. It's a softneck, so no scapes. In the south, they grow mostly softneck varieties. I put them in last October, and they grew all winter. We had a milder than usual winter.

Dug up the second bed of garlic (I call it Harland Garlic) last night.

This has been a "grow yr" in So. Mi.. I have tomato plants 7 ft tall and 5 ft ..Never before...Picked 4 cherry tom. in the last 3 days .It's only July....One acorn squash has spread about 5x 15.....wow!!...There's a 5' steel post in the left of pic.

My tomatoes and squash are going crazy as well.
And my corn is in it's 2nd round of "push ups" as it got knocked down AGAIN last Wed.
The 1st planting was full of new infant ears as well and the 2nd just starting to tassel.

Didn't plant near the beans this year as we still have the well stocked yet from last year.
Planted all purple beans this year and some are really long.
