I like the hood, is it auto on or manual switch?

It's manual.
I had a detector switch in it and it keep cycling on and off so I dumped it.

I've still got to make up some sides for it that flare out and down about 16" to catch all the smoke.

Charlie, almost like cheating.

So, how long does one log like that last?

I've been putting 2 in and they go for about 2 1/2 days, LOL
I do stick one 5" Tamarack in the bottom between them, just to keep things hot!

2.5 days! That is cheating... heating with wood is supposed to be work.

The learning curve on the new wood stove is ongoing, LOL
I found out this morning that putting in 4 6" logs when it's going to get down to 19 below overnight, isn't quite enough.
I only had one log left this morning.

But the water temp was still 177, so I can't complain to much.

Charlie whats your normal temp range on the new stove, I float around 170f on my stove

Wholly crap!
That's way to much work!!!!

I open the door, throw some wood in, close the door.

Jiggle the ash grate handle twice, empty the ash pan once a month and let'r eat.

Charlie, Will that beast swallow whole pallets?

I dream of the day I own a house with a nice outdoor boiler....

How many cord of lumber do you guys average on a cold winter? Are you using the boiler just for hot water, or is it part of your heating system?
