Guys that is a lot of wood. Hate to hear the weather caused a lot of it. Could some be used as railroad ties? The weather is real strange, we are getting rain almost everyday for the last week in the middle of Texas this year, temps have only been 100+ eight times this year (we'll take it). Wish I could get some of that wood but my wife has developed asthma and it is not worth it now. Have a stove in the fireplace with duct work to bedrooms - it can heat up the house real fast. Good luck with the wood.

started cutting and splitting the stack of trunks I have.
ended up with three piles, time for a breverage now

I was splitting some of the trunks that I had bucked down to 20" lengths and found this piece of 1/2" threaded rod. I missed it with the saw by 2". That would not of been good for a chain,,,
The splitter grabbed it and put the bend in it.

It just goes to show just one of many things you can find embedded in trees, I have never found a bullet but that would be cool to find.

Jeff-

That's something else. You might want to go buy a lottery ticket to see if your good luck is still going. I split a piece a ash last year and exposed a 20 penny nail the saw missed by about an inch. It was completely buried with several annual rings behind the head showing it had been there a few years. I once sawed through what appeared to be a miniball. It was deep in the wood and from the size/age of the tree we determined it may have come from the civil war. It was a big oak and this was many years ago. There wasn't enough left after the cut to investigate.

It just goes to show you can use all of the care in the world and still overlook things. I'm glad you didn't find that rod with your saw.

Wayne, yes I should of got a lotto ticket, but I am a tightwad as so people say....
how big is a mini ball? that would be cool to see.

Jeff-

It was just the size of a large bullet and if I remember correctly I went right through the middle or close to it leaving shiny lead in both pieces. This was when I was in my twenties so time has taken all memory detail away.

A tightwad????...you could have been like that person in Iowa last week that cashed in on 200 mill. I was hoping it was Marlin or Ryan or someone from here but never heard.

Digger, I learned something new today. I had never heard of a log boiler. I didnt want to come on and say " what is a log boiler, so I did a search. I found it very intersting how people up NORTH heat.

He said that was a cord of wood, but it sure did not look like one, more like a face cord, but it was neat.

Jeff: I agree - that sure doesn't look like a cord to me. I'm also wondering the actual process - is this true "gasification" where the biomass is cooked off and the gas is burned in a burner or is the heat derived directly from the biomass burning...

Using Don T.'s theory of doing a little at a time:

Pic doesn't show it but it's really a sunny, windy day, here. Finishing up the last of the wood that I knew I'd have to resplit before putting it in.
Now, if I just had DAWN T. here to do up a sinkful of dishes for me ...

Jeff, you are a good person!

How much wood would you say is in the container? That's a nice stash of firewood. Very nice setup.

Kraig It should be about 20 cords of split/dry wood. We have a double door next to boiler to go in and out of.

The boiler is a 400 gallon Wood Doctor, and is very nice,

But I prefer Central Classic boiler design.

Jeff, wow, 20 cord split and dry! I feel like I doing good when I have 8 cord split and dry.

Charlie - don't think you have to worry about cutting off your leg with that thing, but be careful about getting your leg screwed onto it... LOL

Here is a pic with my Boys and our small wood pile.
