Made it back from the Cushman Nationals in Mansfield on Thursday night. We did have a good time, beautiful weather all week (farmers gotta be getting concerned, though). My '59 Super Eagle (Pics at the bottom of this thread) now has a custom 2 piece crank..

that I made while on an evening ride Monday night. Left me with the wife's Truckster or the Model 30 to ride.. Actually took the Truckster about 3 miles from the fairgrounds to Taco Bell for lunch. (It maxes out at a little over 30 and you want to keep both hands on the bars, as the leading link front end on it does a really nifty head shake..

New crank is on it's way for the Super and I'll get back to work on the '56 with a Vanguard that's been cookin' for a year. The new 149 is gonna have to wait it's turn here..

Kendell - You're not suppose to stroke the crank while it's still inside the case. You hurt any parts ?

Ken - I may not even pull the piston out...fracture was across the flywheel side arm, just above where Cushman pinned an oil slinger to the arm (just below the rod journal.. The Cushman used tapered roller bearings on both sides of the crank.. Not taking a chance, I'm replacing the crank, bearings and seals. biggest job will be setting the end play on the crank, they used paper gaskets on the side cover to adjust.. The darn thing actually ran (timing seemed off..

) but it shook like crazy. The two halves couldn't separate because the bearing were holding them in alignment. I guess I may back off on the revs a little.......

Don't ya wish you had a Cushman in your Cub ... then you wouldn't be loosing sleep over balance gears and vented blocks ;) I ought to try to get intoch with the guy here that had a Cushman and see if he still has it. Some years ago he had me find him a part for it, some guy in TN had parts.

If ya aint Red Line'n you aint runnin !

Kendell - very cool!! I have a 1979 P200E Vespa which is looking pretty good at $4/gal for gas these days!

Kent:
Had a '57 Lambretta when I was a kid - went to a vintage motorbike in about 2000 to see if I could find one - came home with three Cushmans instead (the '59 is one of them). Got the red Truckster a couple years later and am building a V-Twin Eagle now, but still no Italian job. Gonna ride the '59 to town today (100 MPG).

Just back from our yearly trek to Portland Indiana for the Vintage Motor Bike meet.. I see the posts last week in the main forum regarding the Correct Police - the Cushman wing of the CP are losing big time - well over half of the Cushman Eagles that showed up had Briggs Vanguard V-Twins on 'em.. I've even seen 'em advertised as "restored" with a 22 horse Vanguard.. Did ride over to Small Engine Warehouse, they had lotsa goodies, including Vanguard conversions for Cubs..

I'm gonna change my signature to "Chief Thread Killer and Archive Forcer"

Oh man... you should have bought that. It would be fun riding. Plus it has a Cub Cadet muffler.

I came close to doing one in yellow and white a few years ago... You probably would have bought the one in the pic if it'd been done in Cub colors....
