Cub Cadet 2072 with 450 Snowblower

Well it's now in my driveway. When I got there it was in 2 foot tall weeds sunk in the dirt to the rims as seen in pics.

It appears to be a beast of a machine, I am posting a bunch of pics.

I will get a new battery in it and see if it turns over, th P.O. told me it leaked hydro fluid and not engine oil, even with the high hours.

comments and questions are welcome.

It will take time for me to learn about this machine.

You done good on that "trade for a Benjamin deal!" Makes me jealous........

Hopefully she'll fire and run for ya. Power steering is nice. You'll love it. Wheel weights, 60inch deck, 450 blower.

Let me know if ya decide to part with the blower.

Jeff--that thing is a beast. I just cut my lawn yesterday with my Super CubKub and my 60" Haban. It cuts quickly and does a good job. If you can get all the details worked out on that thing it should make a really good tractor. If the engine hasn't run in awhile don't be afraid to put a couple of squirts of ATF in each spark plug hole and roll it over by hand. Make sure that there is no gas in the crankcase. Sometimes these Mag/KT twins end up bleeding fuel into the oil from either the pump or the carb. I'm dealing with that on a 782 right now. Make sure that the fuel system is free of varnish and crud. There is a good chance that the hydro leak is the relief valves. However it could also be one of the many lines on a super. When i bought mine, the rag joint on the back of the driveshaft was coming apart and it had cut into two of the hydraulic lines. You can imagine the mess that was. When my relief valves started to really leak, they dumped quite a bit of fluid in just an hour of cut time. I'll be interested to see what you find as you take this thing apart. In the last five years or so, Ive worked with a fair amount of Cubs, plowing snow, blowing snow, cutting grass, cultivating gardens, plowing soil, and the list goes on. They are all awesome machines for sure but the Supers are real beasts. Keep this thread alive with updates and keep us posted on the progress.

Jeff... Awesome tractor! Looks like it has all the bells and whistles. About the only thing I didn't see was a rear hitch. Hope it turns out to be a good running tractor for you. Lots of machine for lots of chores. Have fun with it!

Well after replacing the 12 year old battery, I will start here with the ignition switch.

Should I try jumping it out first or just replace it?

Trace the mag ground wire and the starter solenoid wire. Unplug everything, leave the mag wire hanging in the air and put 12v to the solenoid to start it......if it can be made to run, kill it by grounding mag wire to frame (or choke it to death)

That ignition switch is toast. Hate to see 'em sit out in the weather. I'm with Steve. Try jumping it to see if she runs before dropping coin for an ignition switch. Clean up the fuel system, spark plugs, oil, and hopefully she'll fire up Jeff. That'll be awesome if it does. Is one of the relief valves leaking? Maybe that's the hydro leak he was talking about. Still think you got one heck of a deal!

Jeff: Great find. I would take the wires out of the sheath at least a foot back from the switch before you try jumping it. It looks like some of them got pretty hot at one point and there may be a short in the harness. You can also Ohm things out to check. I know I had to run a few new wires to cure some gremlins on my 782. But as Steve says, the motor should turn over and fire on its own with the magneto ignition system; shorts and opens in the ignition and safety circuits would only keep the solenoid from pulling it, shorts and opens in the light circuit could keep the battery from charging.

You should probably focus on getting the motor running before messing with the electronics. Clean the carb out and jump it with a cable from the battery to the starter. Once you know it has a heartbeat, then you can flesh everything out from there. I would also recommend removing those wires from the ignition. The chance of there being a short circuit is very high; the last thing you want to do is trickle electricity into your precious ignition coil and wind up waiting for parts in the mail (this is EXTREMELY easy to do, and coils for a magnum are at least $60 on the Bay. $130 from a local dealer by special order).

Yep, made it home safe and sound. Good meeting up with ya again today. Nice cub collection and acreage. Neat to see them in person. Hope ya get that 2072 fired up and running fairly easily. You're gonna love that power steering. The blower's tucked away in the shed for now. Will start playing around with it when it gets a little cooler. Now I've gotta decide which cub to put it on.
