Hello to all, I am new to this IH website and have 2 questions. I got a 1100 cub from my brother in law that has a 11hp Briggs & Stratton 399cc engine Model: 253417 Type: 0630-01 Code: 7903511. Every time I ran it was screaming bloody murder or shut off. I only surmise that the governor gear went on it. I was going to do the job but got cold feet. I started to price out having someone rebuild it for me but it seems cheaper to put in a new motor.
My two questions are how hard is it to rebuild the engine (any tips or tricks)? or Has anybody done a motor swap on their 1100 (what did you use for a motor)?

Any or all help is much appreciated. This tractor would be for the wife in the summer and me in the winter. I got a snow blower with it.
Thanks
Glenn

Glen .just how handy are you with tools ,b/s has very good manuals .i would get one and have a look it will help you out .hope this helps

dave,
I have rebuilt a couple of v8 car engines but these little b-s look a hell of a lot smaller for my large hands. I did pick-up a b-s repair manual p/n 270962 but it seems to leave some blanks in rebuilding the motor. Plus I don't have any of the special tools that the book calls for. I have a spare motor of the same model and I think that I will try taking that apart first. Wasn't sure if there were any tricks to breaking into it.
Glenn
