CC 102 mower spring loaded idler pulley

Nearly nuttin' about this type of idler pulley in the manuals - must be an optional extra. Mower had some rotted parts. The belt is new, measured against the old belt. In the closeup, you can see the end of the spring. I'm strong but cannot get the spring in position to attach to the idler assembly. May have taken wrong install steps with Diggers replacement kit #759-07645B/00.
Any ideas?

You bolt the spring up, then put the belt on.

Yes, after installing the spring and to get the belt on, I use my largest adjustable set over the pivot point onto the flat metal and twist against the spring to gain slack and install the belt. Or the "other way" is to get the belt mostly installed and use a blade to help turn the spindle and "roll" the belt onto the pulley. Crude but it can work.

1/2" ratchet or breaker bar to gain slack for belt. The belt looks is loose? Maybe the idler arm isn't going back as far as it needs. Little Kroi Oil or PBBlaster

That spring doesn't look right...there should be one end bent upwards going through the hole in the idler arm close to the pivot. 932-3009 is the part number, I think.

Boyamidum. I'm a good mechanic but just could not suss this out. All perfect now. Back in the day took apart my flat-head Ford V8 and put it back together with no parts left over.

Took a look at part 932-3009. That spring won't work on my lash-up, see Digger's kit 759-0764B/00. In my first pix I don't have the spring attached right but I do now. Perfect.
