This is Cathi again. Please don't judge the old girl from her pictures. Junior took the engine apart and put it back together in one day and now she purrs like a kitten. She doesn't even have a gas tank yet, he has it hooked up to a gas can some how, don't get me to lyin by asking me how, bc I don't know how, I just see my new gas can sitting on top of the tractor. Attached are the pictures you ask me to send to help you further help us identify Junior's IH Cub tractor.
You have made me look so smart, to him and his friends, they now think I know everything now. I will tell them the truth about y'all, maybe?LOL
So please don't stop helping me.
From these pictures can you tell me the;
1. Definite year?
2. Make and Model, or if no Model#, maybe a series?
3. COLOR: Is it supposed to be YELLOW and WHITE? The last person who owned it must have put an inch+ coat of paint,YELLOW, paint almost everywhere. We have been sanding and scraping and with bruised and scraped knuckles, we think that a lot of the tractor was more WHITE than any other color? We do think that the deck was definitely WHITE! No one that we know has ever heard of a solid white IH cub?
4. ENGINE:
Do you know the horse power of the engine?
and who made it?
LAST question (for now) I promise.
5. PAINT REMOVAL?
Since our knuckles are somewhat healed, but still sore to the touch, at least the skin has started growing back. I would like to know if there is some kind of paint remover that we can use, to at least make the paint easier to sand off? I am not asking for a miracle!...well....well,yes I am!!! We need the name of a "Magic Paint Remover" to spray on the metal part of the tractor that will make the paint just fall off?
Our family and friends don't even come a visiting anymore. Because when they come over, we hand them something to sand with or a wired brush!
We have been using small electric sanders, hand sanders, wired brushes and in those tight spots a dremel.

Cathi, I believe Frank left some good advice as well..Have you considered dismantling some parts and having them sandblasted.This would give you a clue to what it could look like. The mower deck is quite heavy but you if lay some boards behind front tires you could roll the tractor back off over the deck.I may have missed them but I don't see the deck hanger bars/chains...That is a hydraulic lift,the lever is there ,the lift bars beside engine are there..good luck and don't give up,those little 4 cyl. sound so nice..

What you have is an International Cub tractor and not a Cub Cadet or Cub Lowboy.

See the really useful Tractor Data site, search 'International Harvester Cub," made from '64-'79 with 13hp engine. I had to re-do my CC 102 mower, layers of paint glopped on. At the big box stores or a paint shop get Citristrip, pink in color, two containers. Lay plastic sheet and newspaper to sop up the mess, lay on plenty of Citristrip with a cheap brush. Be patient and see blistering. Paint comes off easily but there maybe layers of it. Small wire brushes for the crevices, lacquer thinner can help. My 102 is built like a tank, yours more so, a worthwhile restoration. Lotsa luck, Jack

Be careful not to scrub too hard. The plate on my 1948 Farmall McCormick Cub tractor is copper or brass.

We knew that the serial number was 240199. It was stamped into the ID plate just where everyone said it would be. It also had a J stamp right behind the last 9, does that mean anything? The model # looked like it had been long gone. We did find the number 10-23 Y on the engine and L 3 seems to be stamped in many different parts of the tractor. Does that mean anything to you? PS: There will be some rust, can help you deal with that.

Also when using most of these paint strippers lay a piece of plastic sheeting over top of the parts after applying paint remover, this will hold the fumes in and they have a lot to do with paint removal.

10 -23 Y is the engine casting date . The Y is the year 1975 if my memory is right .

The serial number indicates it is a late 1972 International Cub. 1972 serial range is 238506 to 240580. The “J” means it has a Rockford brand clutch. You might want to check out the website: farmallcub.com which is dedicated to Farmall and International Cubs. Lots of Cub information and repair information on the Forum.

You probably already know, but what you have is an IH (International Harvester) cub tractor.
The Farmall cub tractor is generally red in color, and the IH cub tractor is yellow and white. Both were made by IH. The Farmall cub was made from 1947 to 1979, and the IH cub was made from 1964 to 1967.

Different critters from different branches of the iH taxonomy.

neighbors, do i understand correctly that while iH Cub Cadets are considered garden tractors (GT’s), the farmall/ih Cub tractors are not necessarily? they’re more of an acreage or field tractor (?).

Sounds like an apt description. Bigger than a "garden tractor", smaller than an "H". Great "middle of the road" tractor.
