Joel,
"the more I used my cub the more I appreciated it in its proper working original condition" That's a GREAT line!!!

Two summers ago I agreed to let a local young boy use my 125 to start a lawn mowing business. 125 is my favorite Cub Cadet since it was my first cub Cadet my ex and I owned. Man was he enthused... I let him drive the 782D, mow with it, drive/mow with the Keepsake 1650. He absolutely loved all this. Rules I set up were simple... First tank of gas was free... I furnished a quart of oil and showed him how to check/maintain the oil level. Tractor HAD TO BE STORED INSIDE EVERY NIGHT WHEN HE WAS DONE USING IT!!! Period. I would sharpen the blades and any repairs we split unless through negligence then he footed the bill. ANY money he made mowing was his. He had to buy the gas. Things went well for awhile until one day he said he was using the 125 to run across town to the local convenience store. (THAT was spelled out early on as a no-no before he took possession of the tractor.) Next thing... I came home from work one day and there was the Cub Cadet sitting outside their home in the same spot I had seen it in the dark of the morning when I left for work that day. It wasn't being shedded anymore because his friend and him got into an argument so he lost his friends shed privileges and didn't tell us about it. He figured .... "No one would steal it in a small town." What finally hurt the most was the many lies we caught him telling to us. The 125 came home and this year he found an old Snapper to mow lawns with. All the bells and whistles in the world wouldn't have taught him ... responsibility. I'd even offered him Barney originally once he ws running. I guess you can say... I tried to help spread Yellow and White Fever...

Marlin--you couldn't have done anymore than you did! You certainly went above and beyond the call of duty. I'm sorry that you were treated that way in the end. Hopefully this youngster learns the value of honesty and integrity to before he develops a negative pattern in his life that is difficult to break. Maybe, just maybe someday he will reflect upon this whole situation and truly be sorry for it and make amends. Hopefully the seat time he had on your Cubs will cause him to realize what great machines they really are. Thanks for sharing that story. It shows us that no matter how hard we try, we can't convince everyone how great these little machines are!!!

Joshua S. Thank You for your thoughts. Angel and I do have a nine year old boy with absolutely great parents. His Dad works for the local Coop and is interested in Plow Days only he is working when they come up. We're thinking of approaching his parents about starting to "groom' this little nine year old for a future lawn mowing service and a Plow Day attendee. We KNOW he'll take great care of a loaner Cub Cadet. His parents will make sure of that. So, I haven't given up hope yet.

Marlin-

Perhaps a "local young girl" was involved. No matter how hard we try to spread the excitement of this wonderful hobby there are things that will, beyond our control always be considered more important. It may also reflect how this young man was raised and taught responsibility. He probably looks up to you and appreciates all you have done but he might not know yet how to handle certain situations life throws his way. Have you talked with him about the rules you made and how he acted?

Marlin, there are still "good" kids out there - they just don't get the publicity the others get now days. I think overall kids want to do well and some just don't have the parents now days to guide them and nurture them along. It is hard to follow-up with talking with someone that has not come through with the expectations but sometimes it is the best thing to do. I really like the yellow machines and hope with the help of this forum they continue. This forum has been a big help for me as when I first started with the machines about 1971 it was trial and error as the web was not around and I had to learn by the seat of my pants or any information I could pull out of the mechanics at the local IH dealership.

Wayne S. Nope... No girls were involved. It is more his upbringing for sure. Angel and I did visit with him and explain why we just couldn't go on with helping him. I told him that he is always welcome to stop by and we can still work on his mower if it breaks down. He has yet to stop by.

Angel and I won't give up. We just know there are some kids out there that will love to be given a chance. Like I've said... I think this nine year old will be more than willing to have his chance at getting yellow and white fever. And he'll take care of the tractor too.

My grandson will be up here with me for a week between the holidays and he puts these tractors to the test. His favorite's are the 782D and the 127. He will have them all running at some point. It's our quality time in the garage.

Melody--I was just looking back at this thread. I hope that your grandson is enjoying some seat time on the Cubs this week while he is there. There is no better way to be "infected" by the bug than to spend some time on one as a kid with some loved ones. Great Times

First thing he did when he got out of the car, head to the garage and got the 782D going. He plowed snow for a half hour and then came in to inform me it needed chains. I was busy today, but tomorrow first thing we will take care of that.

Melody--That is great!!! What is better than spending time playing on "big kid" toys? Spending time at grandmas. How awesome is that when you can do both?!?! Have a great time together this Christmas season!

The young forum lurker that I mentioned in previous posts sent me a reproduction of a dealer decal he had made up into a magnet. I believe he took photos of a pristine one that it on my cousin's combine and used that to have the magnets made. How cool is that! I placed it on my Original.

Those are neat. I bet if he put some of those up for sale they would sell like hot-cakes. (Hint, hint...I'd buy one)

Art, I will check with him and see. I would buy a few more as well.

What if:
When someone posts their first post in the "wrong" place they got contacted by the email that's in their profile to lead them to the "right" place?

Myron?

Dear Harry: I thought that YOU were the Old Dog!
But I digress - I do that when
beerchug.gif
comes around.
Case in point: I find myself in possession of a Cub Cadet and (thankfully) I have a computer. I decide to find out what I can about my new acquisition and I wind up here. I'm new and don't know my way around in this forum (hey, I just found it, you don't really expect me to read all the Rules, do you)? WTF is a FAQ?
I think we do quite well here with our limited (to us) knowledge and recognize that no matter what we learn about these little beasts there's always more to learn ... always more to learn ... always more to learn

Frank C - yup, you're right. No new tricks for this old dog. Just have to re-learn what I already knew but forgot. Is there another name for that?
