I am trying to get the deck off the riding mower cadet 55, the manual I found here says to pull steering shaft. I have killed 10 drill bits trying to get the rivet out on the shaft to take it apart. I looked at the manual for the 70 and there is a bolt...I wish. Anyone ever succeed in this job if so how?

Bill you may want to go to a colbult drill ,in drilling some things ,speed is a bad thing ,so slow and lots of pressure .hope this helps .David

I have seen special carbide drills used to drill open steel vaults. These and cobalt drills are probabily only at an industrial supply place. You have a Dremel tool where you might grind off an end and punch out the rivet. I have to wonder why they made it so difficult to remove the shaft...are we missing something simple here ??

Bill, when you wrote "I am trying to get the deck off the riding mower cadet 55..." by "deck" did you mean "mower deck" or the fiberglass "body"?

The only reason to remove the steering would be to remove the BODY not the mower deck. Which is it you are trying to remove? The mover deck is held on with quick attach pins...
