I dug out some old home video from my aunt and uncle that lived across the highway from the IH Dealer in Houlton, WI. Years ago they had their old 8mm home movies converted to VHS tape. A year or 2 ago I converted that VHS tape to DVD for them. This morning I took some screen captures that have the IH dealership in the background. These date from the early 1960's probably no later than 1965.

In these next two, that's my mother and father and one of my older sisters. As a side note, that 1958 Mercury was my parent's car. My dad had many Mercurys over the years most were convertibles. He had a 1955 Mercury Montclair convertible, the 1958 in the photos, a 1965 Park Lane convertible, a 1967 Park Lane hardtop Police Special with a 410 V8 Maurader (He was the Chief of Police in Somerset, WI for a few years) and later bought another 1965 Park Lane convertible that my mother still owns but is for sale if anyone is interested...

KRAIG - Neat screen cap's. Not sure if I could have lived that close to an IH dealership back in the 1960's.... I'd have spent WAY too much time prowling around the lot and hanging around in the showroom.

I had a pretty complete collection of all IH sale brochures starting with the 350/450's up to about the 656,756,856,1256. Stopped before the 1456 was released. Had other colors too, some new generation 4 & 6 cyl. JD, Allis D-series, and a little Oliver as well as M&W sales catalogs and some short line stuff. I had all the CC stuff you have up till about the 71/102/122/123 vintage, then went to the bigger FARMALL/IH stuff. I still have some VERY dog-eared copies of the red & first MTD tractors still.

Charlie-

"Just a scaled down version of the big signs of the day.""

I know THAT part... I'm just wondering if that was an IH built thing, or someone's homebrew.

Here is a pic of the former I.H. dealership in VERSAILLES,MO.It now is called GOODS VARIATY STORE.
When it was a I.H. dealership it was named VERSAILLES TRUCK & TRACTOR. When the WENGER family sold it I believe in the early 90's CROWN POWER & EQUIPMENT bought it and moved it to ELDON,MO.

Here is a rack that came from VERSAILLES TRUCK&TRACTOR.

The lighting wasn't very good, but the arch says "William Deering & Co."

Tom --I used to drive a taxi-cab in Chicago (1970's) and I knew about the plant at 39th and Western; I didn't know about the plant on the across the river from the Stewart-Warner plant, down the streat from the old Riverside Amusement Park. That area of the Logan Square neighborhood is all brick apartment buildings. I can't recall the name of the street at 2600 N between Fullerton & Diversey, I want to say Wrightwood, but I'm not sure. Anyway, from the river west to Logan Square it is a boulevard with a wide grass median. The Logan Square station used to be the end of the CTA's northwest line which now stretches on out to O'Hare airport.

Thanks for the memories.

This mildly disguised builing in McHenry, Ilinois is also a old IH dealership.
