Ever wonder why you get a couple inches of hose in a K-series engine gasket kit?

Hey Don that funny looking yellow piece with the bumps in it is what i am refering to. It has I think 2 sets screws in it and it is behind the bearing. what holds this to the crank is it just the 2 set screws? My problem is the starter turns that pully but it doesnt turn the crank.

Bryan, Richard & Bill:

I guess you are right, in that it must be an application for a crankcase breather. I have now plugged that hole.

Thanks for your replies.

Anyone have pictures of a cub cadet 109 front clutch assembley and removal along with pully removal.

Got the 122 runnin' this afternoon (finally) only one problem. After setting the point gap to factory the thing sounded like a cannon if you tried to trottle it up. So for hoots and hollers I backed it off 5 thousandnths and it was like its old self. That would leave my gap at around .029 or so. Is this ok??

The pulley/clutch drive plate (as the parts catalog calls it), has a 1/4" key that keeps it from spinning on the shaft. If the key way has sheered, it may be wedged on the shaft pretty tight. If it turns on the shaft, try to get the slots in the shaft and pulley aligned and use a gear puller to pull it off. The key is part 51 in the engine section of the parts catalog.

EGR - Exhaust Gas Recirculation.......to meet emmisions on newer small engines you need to re-burn crankcase gasses........AND it helps keep a little vacuum on the crankcase.

Bryan and Steve are probably along the right track.

If it is possibly for crankcase ventilation/vacuum.... and the hole was for a piece of hose/tubing from the valve cover to the air cleaner base, then it would be similar to a PCV set up...

The EGR would need exhaust gasses..thus would take a tube from the muffler (since there is no crossover ports on a 1cyl Kohler like there is on a vehicle)to the airfilter base plate.
