Kraig, Keith, thanks. Lots of help. I noticed that some of them looked a little different than others so that's why I figured I'd ask. I thought I was seeing things at first. I just got a new computer and haven't done the photo editor thing yet but one of these days I'll post some pics of my Original. Not done yet but I've noticed the local Cub/IH dealer sure likes to see me walk in$$$$$$$$$$ Thanks, Nick

My dad recently went into an authentic cub cadet dealer from the 60's(now a dealer of assorted brands) and found these baby's sitting in the back room. They are of 1960's era wheel weights for the original. We can't tell if they have been repainted or they are untouched from back in the day. Just Thought you guys would like to see them

you can see the IH casting here

Lucas, cool! NOS wheel weights. They were available in both white and yellow. Actually red was the first color that they were available in, as they were originally designed for the front wheels on a Farmall Cub. I believe the white ones would be the last color available. The weights on an Original I believe should be yellow. As near as I can tell the change from yellow to white occurred sometime during/between the 72,1x4/5 and 73, 1x6/7 series.

From a 72, 1x4/5 series brochure:

Don T.: That's Rhoda, the 123 from Rhode Island. The 107 is the one that was here (with the sweet-running 10 horse) that you bought to finish out your load to haul back to Nova Scotia.

Rear left on trailer. It came in here with a loader on it that went to Joe Donovan in Massachusetts.
Your neck hurts today from shaking your head over the high cost of shipping parts across the border.

Oh, and that pan seat came from Todd Merkle. Cleaned up nice, eh?

Kraig: Suppose we're headed back to those prices?

heck no kraig. i wish we could have gotten it for those prices. he claims its his early christmas gift! Thats the only way his wife my mother would let him make the purchase. lol. But anyway, you said that the wheel weights should be yellow on an original?

Lucas, yes, that is my opinion that wheel weights on an Original should be yellow.

I`am still having trouble with this confuesr not letting me see all the pictures on this site. I have to keep refreshing to get them to post.I hope the Canadian dollar soon comes back again because i will travel for the right Diesel Cub that wants a new Home here in Nova Scotia.

Kraig,
I painted my wheel weights white because I liked the look better and since you could buy weights for an Original at any time, I feel like either color is "correct". As always, to each his own.

Oh, and it's not a total restoration by any means. There's lots I wish I had done different. I didn't get some holes welded/filled up and I left the tabs that were welded on the loader frame to hold some rear weights. When I use the tractor I put them on for traction/ballast. Total ballast weight of 265 lbs not including some wheel weight spacers and the actual wheel weights. Those total another 100 lbs. Plus my 230 lbs.

These pics are when Jerry B owned it out in ID.

Keith, WOW, nice job fixing up Jerry B's old Original w/Loader. I didn't know you bought that from him, did it come with the cats? I bet he wants it back now.

I recognize those photos of Jerry's place, he sent them to me long ago to post for him.

Yep wheel weight color is a personal preference choice.

Nope, no cats. His boys ask when I'm bringing it back every time I see them. I don't know if Jerry wants it back though.

For rhe rest of the croud that black area was the bluegrass field to the north of our old place. After the seed is cut they burn the stubble for weed control. The patch of trees seen above the car mirror was 1100 yards from the open shed door. Sure was a fun shooting range on sundays. Miss that place now and then.

Can the pto on a 106 be rebuilt? I was tightening up the the main pulley to the S/G today(it keeps coming loose and rattles badly) on the front of the engine and noticed the wear button is all but gone, the three screws in the pto clutch are all really loose and wont tighten as if they were stripped just when I think I dont have any other things to repair something else comes up. I'm getting frustrated as h*@! and really dont know what to do, other than try to pull my hair out. I've never had any luck with small engines and am trying to learn. At this point I'd rather rebuild my daughters lego set!

Charlie, is there anything that isnt in the faq? I guess some better maintenance could have prevented this I'm sure but I have always been able to rely on my grandad, but he is getting to the point where I'm not sure if he can still do the work. He is in his 80's and not exactly up to all the work anymore, has bad shoulders and knees and well, everything else. I feel like I'm bothering you guys, but am trying my best to do it myself, call it stubborn pride or just being pig headed but I need to learn somewhere. He was a darn good mechanic (not a welder) who always knew how to fix anything anyone brought to him but thats starting to go by the wayside. I can fix a ton of stuff myself but my knowledge only goes so far. Heck my Cub is older than me by a couple of years! So if I ask questions that may seem kinda silly or dumb, bear with me!!! Scott
