K301A.
spark plug gap.
service manual says .035 for my engine, battery ignition, but it also says .018 for "gas fueled" engines. do they mean gas as in natural gas, not gasoline? is .035 the correct gap?

if you guys can possibly stand another question about my 128 with a stalling problem, can something cause a spark plug to fail very quickly? something that cleaning the plug wont cure?
128, K301A. stalls when hot and under load.
spark plug is a year old, very low hours as i have worked on the tractor more then it has run.
just now, it would not start. narrowed it down to the spark plug. pulled, wet with fuel, which i believe is normal because of flooding because it would not start.
cleaned, gapped to .035, still would not start.
I dont have a new plug, but I took the old plug out of the 129 I just bought, which runs, but needs a tune up. 128 started right up.
my assumption is, the 128's spark plug is shot, by why fail so fast?
is this a clue to the stalling problem? is there a problem that would cause a stall and destroy spark plugs?
plug is a champion, I could try another brand.
could my stalling problem be the plug? if the plug is failing, it will fail when hot, correct?

any thoughts?

Vince-
Ah.....A bypass kit. Good idea! I hope he didn't buy it from Charlie, he only sells the cheap ones from China. If that's the case, he'll need a new distributor soon!

Frank-

Through the years I have purchased spark plugs that were "bad". This past week I have had two people with problems starting their machines and a new spark plug fixed them both. Spark plugs do go bad so always include them when trouble shooting. It can be an easy fix. As far as brand I can't say which make is better. Maybe others will chime in on the subject.

Good luck!

Frank, could very well be something "killing" your spark plug. I have to replace the spark plug in the left cylinder in the Onan in my Allis Chalmers 620 every few months. The right cylinder has yet to have a plug go bad in it. I have no idea why this happens but it does happen.

I just keep several spare plugs on hand. I've found that in my Allis Chalmers anyway, the NGK brand seem to hold up the longest.

i will keep a large supply of spares on hand, and try different brands. just wondering if anyone thought it might be the tractor, not the plugs.

Frank, if memory serves me correctly I think you should gap your plug at .025, not .035. I always look on the left side of the flywheel shield/cover at the serial number plate to make sure of this before I put on a new Plug.

Taiwan water pumps, theres yer problem, thier supose to spin backwards. You have to flip the belt over.

Gent's, a K-301 battery powered ignition specifies .035 on the plug gap but LOL on the pump specs.

Guess what got all new seals today....

Under edit. Frank,,, I think you found your problem. A bad spark plug/s. Get a NEW copper plug wire and a couple of Autolite 216's. Also...... once again check your timing WITH A TIMING LIGHT and set your carb a touch on the rich side.

Allen, Mabey, the directions are in taiwan.

I'm okay with korean but my taiwan is real rusty.

spark plug gap for a K301A. battery ignition.

Kohler engine service manual says .035. .025 is for magneto ignitions.
if you are certain it is .025, can you tell me which manual you are reading this? maybe I have the wrong one.

Speaking of grill screens, I just put a reproduction screen on my 125. I wanted it to look like the original zinc finish and I found some paint that I think looks pretty good. It's Rustoleum Metallic Matte Nickel.

Frank S. Agree Kohler master manual says .035 for battery ignition...but
The Cub Service Manual for 73,106,107,126,127,147 models says in the spec section that its a battery ignit. tractor and point spec is .025. In the plug section it also says .025
So I dont know whitch is right...set it at .030 ???
Think this question popped up a few years back but dont remember resolution. Got a new plug a while back and just threw it in and seems to run fine.
