The 129 loader is going to get another day at moving some 1.5" stone for a pad to sit my 5th wheel trailer on this am.149 with the dump trailer and the O for mowing some leaves if I get the stone moved in time.Have the 147 in the shop as it will have the new rubber I put on last year taken off and installed on my 1512D. I always plan more than I can get done in one day

I must have run the PC low on Hytran.... My hard drive crashed.... I am posting from my server PC... Fortunately, I backed up most of my pictures a few months ago... Today I'll be going back to retreive some pics I have posted lately.... Dbl Grrr.

Heading up to a Sears store to get a Group 70 battery for the cub... It measures 8-1/8w, 6.-1/4 deep, and 7-1/4 high...

Mike Fisher made a comment about "wrestling" with his tire chains. I stumbled onto a very easy way to do it. Using my method, I can have both sides on in under 5 minutes.

I simply jack up the back of the Cub with my floor jack. This way the wheels rotate and you can get the chains adjusted correctly on the tire so they easily attach.

Just wanted to share an easy way to do it. Off to take off the blade and put on the QA-42 snow thrower on my 125.

Just got back from our Thanksgiving trip to Kansas. Took the truck because my parents bought me a gift.
181806.jpg

It came with a deck and a spare hood/front cast grill. I also grabbed the 7hp Kohler (for an original) my father had sitting in the shed.
181808.jpg

It is always interesting to see the modifications these tractors receive over the years. Who needs a key in Kansas? As a side note, my father had his pos $500 Saturn stolen from his country driveway while we were there (keys in the ignition). The thieves also stole the kids' dvd player and a bag of cheetos from my unlocked truck. The police are on the lookout for someone with orange fingers.
181807.jpg

Some differences here. My current 100 (flame) has the vertical dipstick tube next to the s/g, but the new one has the dipstick on the cam cover next to the points and carb.
181809.jpg

It has the Carlisle ag tires which are a little worn and cracked, but the front tires look almost new. I'm hoping it has the bearings instead of bushings in the front.
181814.jpg

Just a little overview. I'll probably switch the rear tires to the flame as I use it for pulling. The spare hood has the hood ornament I need too.

My parents also purchased another IH tractor from the same guy. They wanted me to have it. The guy told them it was an "older model 100". I laughed because there is no such thing. Then I saw the beast. Sure enough, it was an original that had been modified with a 10hp Kohler. However, the engine was installed backwards. The flywheel faced the front of the tractor, and the output shaft had the belt driving the drive-shaft/clutch. I guess the ring gear had been flipped for that configuration to work correctly. I didn't get a picture and couldn't fit it in the truck, so it will probably show up here the next time my parents come to visit. They said they purchased the two cubs, spare hood, and deck for $400. It was a deal I would have snapped up had I lived there (NM has NO Cub Cadets.)

Anyway, it was a great Thanksgiving with family for us. I hope everyone else had a safe and fun weekend also.

Home of the Plow Special (Aaytay), I have noticed that on several other pieces of literature also. Speaking of which, Kraig, I got your package/box yesterday. Thanks you very much. I am looking at the cds now. They are very interesting.

Ahh, yes here's one. They label it as a 147 but its really a 149. Note: the hydro lift lever, and the tunnel cover
181812.jpg

I found another Pic of a CCO with a front blade. I like the blade turn system they have, for the early 60's its pretty cool.

I don't think I'd ever trust anything put out by the ad guys... they tend to slip stuff through without proper review.. It was easier to retouch photos than to drag your a.. out to where the right machine is, or wait till the real deal was available.. Like our "NLA" nowadays, there is also "NWA" (Never Was Available). As Art said, they were air brushing more than pinups, long before PhotoShop

I have been browsing around looking for some good ag tires. I kinda like these the best...
181817.jpg

Here is the description:

-6-ply rating for excellent puncture resistance
-Reinforced Carcass Ridge (RCR) Technology delivers strength, reduces weight, and sheds mud
-Sweeping, angled tread bars move mud out from the tread, enabling riders to tackle the most extreme riding conditions.

They are obviously for a 4 wheeler, but I shouldnt have and mud problems. They arent to expensive either. The only thing that worries me is will they fit on a 23x8.50-12 rim? The tire size is 23x8-10, so I dont know for sure...

Finally getting around to replacing the blown head gasket on my 1450. Good thing a picked up a head on fleabay awhile back- no saving this one! I didn't notice the new head has the spark plug hole in a different place though. I wonder what it really goes to? Guess I will be trimming the plug opening in the shroud.

JEFF D. - I've been mounting my tire chains that way for years. Even on my full size FARMALL's, but since the chains for them weigh 250-300# per side it's more like an hour per side.

DON D. - Yep, toggle switch is pretty common on 70/100's. IH didn't recess the key switch until I think it was the 72/1X4/1X5 to prevent the operator's knees from breaking the key off in the switch. New key switch is expensive!

JEFF C. - spark plug placement has been discussed before. K241,301,&321 heads are all the same. The one with the plug right over the exh. valve is a later engine spec. head, Kohler found the engine had better performance with the plug in that location. The head with the plug between the valves is an earlier head.

Your old head is repairable, but the repair requires TIG welding & resurfacing and that costs about what You paid for the good head.

Don D.,
Regarding your latest addition to your Cub family, you mentioned that the new-to-you 100 has the short oil dipstick next to the points cover -- just a reminder/suggestion that is a VERY good indicator that the engine had or still has the balance ("grenade") gears. If you haven't yet, you might want to consider dropping the oil pan and doing a quick look to see if they're in there; before getting along too far with it.

RYAN - Did Kohler put gernade gears in the CC-spec K241's? I know most of our prior discussions were about K301's.

I thought the same thing when I first read Don's post.

I haven't seen the balance gears in a K-241 from a cub yet (at least not a 100). I rebuilt a 241 from an AC 310 that had them once, and that was the first time I had witnessed them. This was back in 1995, before questions could be asked over the internet regarding the gears, and it took me over a week just to figure out how to put them back in.
Anyway, the flame 100 could use a good tune-up so I figured I would just pull both engines, give them each a cleaning, de-carbon, etc.. I'm also just going to go ahead and put a new coil on the new 100. I've had way too many headaches with these engines that boiled down to coil problems.

so don, can we assume that this new 100 runs and drives?

Sorry, forgot to mention. Stole the battery from the other 100 and some gas. It didn't start initially, but narrowed the problem down to a loose screw on the points adjustment. It runs and drives. Isn't that always the story on these old tractors?! I didn't run it long and don't know if it charges etc.. It runs like it needs a tune-up pretty badly though.

Dad was able to get a spy photo from his local CaseIH block man this week.

Seems CIH has been listening to the needs of the customers in Central IL who are having problems getting their corn out due to the horrible weather conditions and have designed a new product for the 2010 model year.

Prototype 2010 Case IH Hi-Residue No-Till Planting System....

CIH claims vast inprovements in time and fuel savings, and the time consuming task of refilling the planter has been simplified with an on-board seed storage system......

Seriously, the 1460 has been side-lined for the better part of 2 weeks...sloppy wet swamp around here.

Good new is I was able to get the Super 782 and Super 42" thrower ready to go with "extended" 10.5" chains and all.....

Picked up the group 70 battery yesterday.... fits perfectly between the frame rails, I will have to section thebottom of the tray and insert a 3/4" strip of metal to allow the battery to sit down all the way...

Dennis F. / Don D.,
According to the FAQ specs ( http://cubfaq.com/enginespecs.html ) there were K241 produced with balance gears.

However, a couple of months ago when we were looking at who had what regarding short, long & dual oil tubes, as well as balance gears, no one reported having a K241 with balance gears. Some reported K301s and the majority reported were K321 engines.

I only mention it based on the specs information.... Better to be safe than sorry I thought.

A few years ago, (before I knew better) I lost a good K301 engine block, crank, etc. to grenade gears; I won't let that happen with me again.
