well then can anyone give me an average price on a rod for a K-241... and i would assume rings are about $15-$20

Thanks
Matt

Don Tanner,

Did you get the Equus Tach figured out today? The 3200 RPM (I calculated) at WOT makes some sense, but 400 RPM at idle isn't correct, is it?

Timothy T. Very funny comment on chasing tails! My wife got a kick out of that one as well as myself!!!

Matt S.,

Check out some of the sponsors at the top of the page. I looked at one site that had some Kohler rings for $8 and some connecting rods for $22.

I have a bead on two of the gannon earthcavators, small about 40 inches or so, sorry no pics.Im not sure if they are set up for a Cat 0 or 3 point.Ive seen the difference in some pics here on the fourm, but am unsure what type of hitch is required for them.I was so excited I didnt think to look.

My question is are there catagory 0 hitches available for narrow frames?I belive I saw one someone was building but cant find it agin.Dose brinly or someone else manufacture one?

The guy has a cultivator, front blade and a craftman with weights and Ag's.He told me to make him an offer.Crapsman dont run I just want the ags and weights!

Figures, when you have no money you find something like this!!Hopefully he will still have it in the future!

Well Charlie?? Are there???

Put in a new voltage regulator today in my 149. My volt gauge is always slightly below the charge mark. I did ground the terminals on the starter/generator and the lights did brighten and the volt gauge did go to the charge side as well as the engine speed slowed indicating that the starter/generator is working. So I am suspecting the regulator.
Well I put the new one in today and the terminals are labeled differently. The center one is the generator and the battery is one of the outside ones. My new one is labeled battery in the center one. The Field is in the same on both. The problem is that when I hook it up it starts to turn over the engine with the key off. I assumed the wires were connected wrong and I switched the battery and generator and I get the same thing. Tested the F wire to make sure I have continuety with the F on the generator and I have that. Do I have a bad regulator? Has anybody had this before? I did put the old one in and it works, just low voltage.

Thanks
Mark

I'm up north and will try to get everyone an update yet this week.

Morning all. It looks like my governor has broken in the 14K. if i put vice grips on the shaft it will only rotate left or right a small amount and can`t get the adjustment i need.I would like to know how much of a turn is there on the shaft because mine only turns about 1/8 of a turn? Next thing is how much work is it to replace the G.
Kraiq how did you make out on the adjustment on the Killer K since i think you were having the same problem that i`am having. Thanks Don T

Don, I was away most of the weekend and have not had a chance to do any more work on Killer. Tonight I should be back to work on it.

Mark, not sure if this will help any but I figured I'd post it anyway.

Also it sounds like your old regulator is working but the voltage is low, correct? If so then why not just adjust the existing regulator? I can email some pages from the service manual that explains how to do this. Just let me know if you want me to send the 3 files.

"Silly" question. What is the diff between 782 and 1811? nice looking one on e-bay. It looks just like my 782 except for the decals. I am thinking this is the change over to MTD, am I right?

I am having problems getting my 123 to stay charged. I have the regulator adjusted all the way in, so it barely charges. Is the regulator bad or is it the battery that is bad?

DONALD T. - re: Governor shaft movement; Been a while since I set the governor on My K321 but I think 1/8 turn is about right. There have been problems on K-series engines in the past with the lever on the shaft inside the crankcase breaking off the shaft so DON'T FORCE IT! to turn more. BT-DT!!! The governor arm is VERY long and doesn't need to move much from low idle to wide open at the throttle valve at the carb. If You have to replace the cross shaft or any other parts of the governor they're the LAST PARTS You remove from the crankcase after COMPLETE dissassembly. If I remember correctly You have to reinstall the new cross shaft from inside the crankcase with the big brass nut removed from behind the governor arm. All those parts are something that You don't have to remove when You rebuild an engine normally, but before You start reassembling have to make sure they're O-K. A K301 I rebuilt 12-14 yrs ago had the cross shaft broken while remachining the block and they had the NERVE to charge Me for the replacement. Since then They've lost about $1000 worth of small engine machine work from Me. Too bad, They were only 7-8 miles from My house, and I've gone over 70 miles to Other shops to not use them again.

JOE C. - Welcome to ihcubcadet.com, The 1811 is very similar to a 782, everything is very similar except for the yellow & white paint plus the fact the 1811 has an 18 HP opposed twin cyl. Kohler instead of the KT-17. Much better engine! MTD/CCC hadn't had time to modify many of the original IHC designs by the time the 1810/1811/1812's were in production. FWIW, IMHO, MTD "FIXED" a lot of things with the original IH designs. Front axles and steering linkages were problems with early CC's which MTD fixed, drive shaft problems too. MTD did try to design out $$$$$ from IH's design. IH came out too late with lighter weight lower cost components like the alum. axle carriers, front grill surrounds, etc. But then IHC had a LOT of iron foundries to make heavy cast iron parts and MTD didn't. IH didn't have alum. foundries or diecasting facilities. Guy tried to tell Me yesterday His Dad's two 706-gas powered FARMALL's had aluminum cylinder blocks. I just knodded My head and IGNORED everything else He said. IH didn't even have a non-ferrous foundry in the 1960's. Did I mention He was an assembly Supervisor at a JD plant before He retired?

Jessie E:
"Is the regulator bad or is it the battery that is bad?"
With the info you have given us, we have this guy working on an answer....
97047.jpg

Wait - nope he sez he needs to know if you have:
1: Cleaned ALL the connections, especially the grounds to the frame.
2: Checked the S/G brushes
3: Looked inside the battery or done a load test
4: Looked in the Cub manual at the section on V/R adjustment or looked in the faqs?

Governor problems...yuck. I had a heck of a time figurin mine out. Spent an hour on it before I called a friend over to look at it. He had it fix in 5 minutes.

I still don't know what he did to it, sorry. I dont think its broke though. I thought mine was too. those things are very very touchy.

Dennis thanks for the info. That 706 story is pretty good I rebuilt two of them myself never seen any shiny silver stuff on them either (except for the rims)
