SCOTT S. - It's referred to as "STAGGER" by most. Do You have "Speed Channel"? NASCAR, WOO Cars, etc. NHRA = "Not so much"

Greg:
I'm sure you know what it says in the Cubfaq - " IH-473462-R4-3/8 X 81" ". Why not take a piece of 3/8 diameter rope, thread it around the pulleys, pull it tight, mark the rope at the overlap and measure the length - if it's close to 81", then that's your belt......

Dennis: Stagger in a drag racer? Only after kissing the wall - not good with most of 'em.....

On edit.. back years ago, I'd pull air out of the right hand Air Lift on my small block '65 Impala to break the tire loose off the line (had to get that !@#$%^ mouse revvin' to make any horsepower...)

Oh yeah I have that channel! I also know a couple of dirt track guys around here who stagger their tires for the corners or big oval if you prefer! Everyones off here tomorrow and hopefully I will get a chance to put everything back together and air up the right rear. I watch mostly off road stuff and rally's, motocross, four wheelers and other thing's my wife wont let me EVER have!!! LOL

Well I fixed my ignition problem on my 129. The pin that pushes the points open was stuck with the points open. Now I have a new problem. I drained the oil and out came one metal piece and a number of small platic pieces. I am not sure what these are but when I was doing my last cutting I heard a noise and the engine reved up and I had to throttle way down to keep the RPMs reasonable. I cut the rest of the lawn with the throttle lever in the idle position with the engine running at about 3/4 throttle with no power.
I have never had this engine apart, but from what happened could this be the governor. Is this a common thing, and am I correct that this is a major tare down?
Any comments appreciated
Earl LaMott

Earl-

I think the governor gear broke. Bad news, you've gotta take the motor completely apart to change it.

yah id say thats your governer, if you look back a day or to ago to my 149 rebuild, the same thing happened to it, only it blew up!

well i finally got some pics of that 106 that followed me home sunday, its not pretty, it doesnt work 100% correctly, but it runs very strong and doesnt smoke! it didnt come with that deck, that came off my freebe 125, it came with 2 decks tho (both junk) and a very nice BB-36 snow thrower, the only thing i saw wrong with it was some light surface rust! spins nice and everything

KENDELL - You didn't make it into HOT-ROD mag with that '65 Chevy did You? I remember reading an article back in the early 70's, Guy was running a small CID Mouse Motor, something around 265-283 CID but seemed like it had a non-stock bore/stroke in of ALL THINGS a '65 Impala Station wagon. Seems like He was launching around 9000-10,000 RPM. Needless to say He was breaking a LOT of drivetrain parts. Pretty sure it was a 4-speed.

Cam profile & valve spring technology wasn't as developed then as it is now. Seems like I remember a comment about replacing valve springs every 5-10 passes. Now days Cup cars run that RPM for 500-600+ miles.

ANYHOW, working on putting all my yard care "Toys" away. Sure wish My shop was about 40X60 instead of 24X36! I should have a "Yard Sale" but the only stuff that would actually sell is the stuff I need & use!

This is Veteran's Day - To all of those that have served the country, and to those that are still out there for us - THANK YOU!

Seems good that this is one day that they haven't moved to be all Fridays or Mondays.......I wonder how many people still call this Armistice Day??

Dennis: No HRM, no 4 Speed - I robbed a Turbo 400 from a '65-66 Chevy pickup - had a steep low gear compare to the Pglide. Engine was an expen$ive 302 (destroked 327). Shifted manually at around 76-7800. Stupid kid tricks - never had enough money to do it right..

Firewood gathering is done for the season, I'm going to do more yard cleanup today, then decide whether it's too soon to put the QA42 on the 129 (I hate to do it too soon, then the Sc.g ends up getting all the trailer duty and other towing duty..I'm starting to look at shop projects to keep me busy till after Christmas - the 149 still is waiting its turn, but the cork gasket will probably go in the 129 first, and I'll probably find more to do there when I split it...(hydro linkage needs freshening, if nothing else)..

THANKS TO ALL THE VETERANS ON BOTH SIDES OF THIS BORDER WE SHARE.
