JERRY B. - The split I had took the tube too, it was 6-8 inches long. I just pulled the 70 into the shop, jacked it up, removed the tire chain, pulled the wheel/tire and installed one of the identicle wheel/tire assemblies from the 72 left from when I put the 23-8.50 'Stones on, reinstalled the chain and was back grading in 10-15 minutes.

I'll discuss chains, but hope the really cold weather and snow hold off for 6 or 8 more MONTHS, then it can warm up again. I heard a rumor that we're supposed to have a winter almost as bad as 3-4 yrs ago when we got just over 120 inches of snow.
 
2 years ago I got hammerd with the ice storm and I did not have my original ready for service, and my power was out for 3 weeks, but I will be ready this year

LUCAS - I'm pretty sure the 1X8/1X9 CC's were the first with rear mounted under the seat batteries. I think the 1X6/1X7's had a small tool box under their seats, might be wrong on that, never owned a 1X6/1X7.

The part of the Cub Farmall rear PTO that bolts to the rearend fits the Cub Cadet, but the driveshaft for the Cub is about three feet too long or something. Think maybe Art A was involved in a conversion years ago. Seems like a shaft has to be cut off and shortened, then the splined end welded back on. Not impossible on a small tractor like a CC but I wouldn't recommend welding shafts on anything bigger in HP.
 
Dennis, I'm still moving snow with the CCO. Easy on gas and a bit too lightweight. Wish I had the two link chains they ride much better. My boys want snow so that I can pull them with a cub.
 
JERRY - I'm going to try my new-to-me frt blade on the 70 this winter. I need to get a second set of weights on the rear tires, that'll make around 150# on the back with chains.

Hopefully it'll move the 3-4 inch snowfalls I hate to get the big tractor out for.

Think it was three winters ago we got 15 to 17 inches one day. I buried my PSD trying to get into the driveway going downhill, I was pushing snow with the frt bumper. I left the truck sit idling and started pushing snow with the Super H. SON got some video of me pushing thru two ft deep snow digging my truck out.

Place I was working at closed at 10 AM, Son's work closed at Noon. Son calls about 2 PM says he's stranded at work 80 miles away. The last 20 miles I would have had to drive if I was going home was two tracks in the snow, even saw a State DOT truck buried in the median. On the big ramp going from I-94 onto I-90/94 there was about two semis and 3-4 cars slid into the guardrail and stuck. I ran the whole way from my work to SON's work in 4WD. When I turned down the road to SON's work I had to bust thru a drift four ft tall. SON was still adamant he could get his 2WD truck home till about a quarter mile from his work when he started seeing how deep the snow was.

It's nice knowing I can get around well in those conditions but I really don't enjoy it like I did 30 yrs ago. First winter I had my first 4WD pickup I'd hit the mall parking lots late at night, head out into the country ditch banging. Had a few places I had to back out of but never had to walk home or to get help!
 
Hello, does anyone one have any pics of the lift linkage for a 982. I converted a 42" from a 1650 and would like some pics! Thanks

Dennis, I hope you have the hyd lift on the 70. You have a better clutch and no belt to slip. I really need to finish my 100 someday. Would be nice to use that hyd lift like the 149 has. I have never had chains for the 149, do have the blade. Guess I could run the 6-12's from the cco???
 
Quick question on the Cub Cadet lights... I am getting ready to restore a 100. I have a set of lights from a 123. It appears That the assembly is identical. But I want to double check. Thanks, Tyler

They will work.
Just cut the bent lip off the 123 headlight panel.

JERRY B. - Nope no hyd lift, not even a spring assist on the 70. I guess I should try mounting it someday, maybe soon.

I had 23-10.50 tires on my 129, which made it something like 39 inches wide if I remember right, which kept me from converting my QA-36 snow blower back to WF mounts and mounting on the 129, the tractor was wider than the blower. If you angle the blade you'd have to run pretty fast with your 149 to roll the snow beyond your tires. Yep, putting the 6-12 Pizza Cutters & chains on the 149 might be the ticket!

Ahhh, We're not going to get much snow this winter..... Right?
 
Thanks Guys... I need to drag it out and take a before pic. I haven't had time to do one lately so I figured I would work on one this winter... Its a pretty nice One owner machine if I can hunt down a hood.
 
got kind of a new to me question


setting up the cat 0 on my 1811 and was curious about some hitch settings as I am going to plow with it yet this fall any help is welcomed looking for draft arm and center link adjustments to get me close ... I"ll do the rest in the field
 
ROB - Do you have a Cat O plow or a sleeve hitch plow & adapter?

I've plowed some with my 982 w/Cat O 3-pt and a sleeve hitch plow & adapter.
 
I would set it up the same way I would a sleeve hitch plow: Put the left wheels up on blocks that are the same height as your desired furrow depth, and then set the plow on the ground behind the tractor. Adjust the lower arms accordingly, then the top link, and it should be set up properly. The one time I plowed with a Cat-0 plow, this is what I did, and I didn't have to adjust anything once I started plowing.
