I bought an 1872 Super a couple of weeks ago. It's no wonder you guys who own them love them. I mowed with it last weekend. Sweet machine.

Steve B is delivering an 1811 roller tomorrow afternoon. That will be the next V-twin project. More later.

in your viscosity-index posts... the person whom which you didn't identify surely wasn't suggesting use of engine oils in leiu of hydraulic fluid?

Engine oils are designed for operating pressures in the 100psi range, with aereation present...

Hydraulic fluids, however, are designed for operating pressures in the 100+ BAR range (1500+psi!), with aereation...

...IF a person uses engine oils in a 100+ BAR hydraulic system, and aereation occurs, the system will immediately suffer from Diesel-Effect... the oil will burn to the greatest capacity which the aereation allows (it's oxygen-limited)... in minor instance, this will cause serious carbon-soot buildup inside the pumps and motor, while serious instances will cause casting ruptures, fire within the transaxle, etc.

I deal with diesel-effect scenarios in hydraulic trolley-car brakes all the time- in one demonstration, we aereate hydraulic fluid mixed first with mineral spirits, next with Acetone. For safety, we submerge the actuator in a pressure-test tank filled with water.

Result of diesel-effect demonstrations:
Mineral spirits blow the seals out of the actuator, and dumps fluid at high pressure into the test tank.

Result of Acetone: the actuator explodes, sending steel fragments out, and blowing water out of the safety tank.

So the rule is:
1) NEVER clean a hydraulic line with any type of volatile solvent
2) Always clean hydraulic lines and components with hydraulic fluid
3) Never use anything but hydraulic fluid... as hydraulic fluid...

Man, these night time hours are killing me. Plus, a dang cold has set in so I won't be going to Dyersville this weekend. Just a couple of local errands tomorrow and then hopefully clean the garage out for winter.

I agree with McGiver on the cost of a couple of the top end 15 U pumps (more items such as tandem or other added on). That can make them pricey. Buying the repair parts can like anything easily run more individually than a new unit.

I was told today that when the 15 U first came out they hooked the pumps up to a 100 hp electric motor and ran then 100 hours straight full bore with continuous forward/reverse operation. I guess they held up beautifully after that punishment. Shows the sturdiness of them. :+)

Wyatt C. I should be home tomorrow morning until 8:30. After that I won't be home until late afternoon. I'll try and get your number from the phone book and call you before I leave. Unless, you want to try and call me. Might be easier for your schedule so you don't have to wait around. Just tell Angel it is a Cub Cadet emergency. She gets up before I do. Maybe I can help you out with a couple of ideas before you shell out all that money for kits and stuff.
 
Wyatt C. Real quick ... before I try and sleep in the recliner again due to a stuffy/runny nose problem. I noticed you said that you read the Sauer manual recomendations as to options. Out of curiosity which manual? Is it BLN-9646 ? I see on page 15 under operating HOT there is a schematic that will walk you through what to check first and so forth on down the line. Have you tried all those inspections?

I do not have the same manual you have. All I have is the application guide. All it says is the minimum requirments for volume and temp. So I guess that more volume for the resivoir is not bad.

RTFM, Sauer lists CD engine oils as acceptable. As for 100PSI . . . . find out what pressure oil sees in an International PowerStroke diesel (the 7.3L/444CID), get back to us what you find out.

Ted. I don't know if the manual is available online from Sauer Danfoss or not. I got mine from work. I have both BLN-9646 and BLN-9659 if you want to see if they are available online. One is a service and the other is repair. I am on dialup and my little laptop takes forever to do stuff. Much easier to ask for the manuals. The manual says that the minimum suggested reservoir total volume (in gallons) is 5/8s (five-eigths) of the Charge Pump flow (in gallons per minute) and with a minimum fluid capacity equal to 1/2 (one half) the charge pump flow.
As for Heat Exchanger info: The manual states that the transmission should not exceed 200 degrees as a continous operating temperature. A Heat Exchanger should be capable of dissapating at least 25% of the maximum horsepower to the transmission. Their example is as follows: 8hp (maximum input horsepower) so the Heat Exchanger Capacity is at 2hp.

Trying to get my old Kohler 4500 watt RV generator running. Anyone know if it can be reconfigured for 220 volts?

Come Sunday at noon(today,I am wired for power right now) I am going to obtain a tractor that is completely off topic. This machine is articulated,2 cylinder 23hp diesel,rear PTO,Cat 1,power steering,4 wheel drive,beautiful loader,Cat 1 finish mower,Cat 1 counter weight,hi-lo range,huge ag tires and very hard to get parts for. Any guesses as to what it is? Bueller? I'll post a pic tomorrow,I can't even sleep. What I paid is a crime in some states,I don't want anyone bursting into tears so I won't even say. I think the void left by the 782D has been filled and then some,sorry to say.
