Scott S: Just make sure you looked it over inside for that piece that broke off. It will get sucked into the pickup hole eventually and cause the gears to break. If your old seal is not cracked, you can probably re-use it. Sounds like you purchased a complete lift set-up with a new rock shaft. I would try and bend it back with some heat on it. Or even better, if you have your old rock shaft cut the top part off that connects to the lift handle and just use your old one. You will need to remove the adapter from the hydraulic lift rock shaft and bolt it to your old one.

Send me the link to where you found the seals

John N. I don't know which mower deck you are referring to with the quick release brackets spreading but if you are talking about the 44 and 50 inch decks here are some suggestions.

Most people weld a piece of flat iron on the deck to strengthen it and then re bolt the u-brackets after they are straightened out.

On the 50 inch deck I usually remove the quick release pins and use a straight rod through the brackets and the lift frame, it makes everything more stable and reduces stress on the deck. It only takes a couple minutes more to attach or remove the deck.

If you want to get carried away you can add some front swivel casters and some extra bracing.

RICHARD - I sent You an e-mail....I know You have a bunch of #44 & 50 decks.

Seems we are on the deck topic again can the center driven pulley from a 44C be swapped for one from a 44A ?

Help! I'm new to this. Picked up my Cadet 80 about 4 years ago. Not sure how old it is but until late last summer it was a dream. Definitely not overpowered, but very easy to handle. Then it stopped moving. Now it will move until it warms up then it starts screaming and will only incy along if at all. This has been probably the best mower I've ever driven. Any ideas on how to save it?

Richard C. Thanks for the suggestions, the 44 & 50 like your picture is what I am talking about. I have a 44 on a 149 and a 50 on a 782. Both do the same thing. Several times during mowing season I have to drop the deck adjust the u brackets and mow some more, I like the 1 piece pin; this would help 2 of the problems, spreading and dropping. This is something I don’t remember having a problem with on the original deck. They were a lot heaver than the new style.

Hi Kevin, welcome aboard !..
You'll probably get more answers on your 80 in the section for the IH lawn tractors here. The part of the forum you posted in is for the IH built Garden tractors

Hey all, I got the seals at NAPA they are listed as part number NOS 4911. CR4911 is the same thing, the CR is a code for the manufacturer of the seal, Chicago Rawhide. I have a friend that used to work for napa and told me how to use thier parts pro se so I only had to look up the number itself under "interchange". It lists them as being a "shift shaft" seal but are the same thing. As for the spring, it is a "torsion" spring. I found all the parts to the broken one in my lift but also found that they are no longer offered. McMasters sells torsion springs but I realize that I am a dummy when I get on that site. I am however having my dad do all the measurments with his micrometers on whats left of the old spring and will pass those along to you all by the end of the day tomorrow.

Okay, here are the measurments for the torsion spring for the NF lift. Inside diameter is .625, the outside diameter is .845 the thickness is .105. Its a 90 degree right hand coil, with 4 coils, the "arms" are about 2 inches in length. The arms would need to be bent to work correctly I think. I hope this helps out, I went to motorcycle shops, tractor repair shops, hardware stores and had no luck! So I tried mcmasters and they have simular to the original spring that I can find. Maybe your local Cub dealer has them but none of mine do here.

While on the topic of decks, can anyone help to id this? Can it be made to fit a 1450? I have no mule dive or frame.

Scott Stanton, (or anyone else who knows)

On the narrow frame hydrolift unit, what do you use for a gasket or seal for #35? It is NLA from Cub Cadet.

Ben,
It appears to be an older 38 or 42 inch deck. Could be made to fit the 1450, but you would need a mule drive to run it and lift it.

Jeff I,
I also own a couple of Wheel Horses and had as many as 4 at one time. Lately I have been getting into the Cub thingy. So if you get thrown out of the Wheel Horse club, I'm sure I will to as now I have more Cubs than Horses.

Kirk, when I took mine apart it, and it had been apart once before by PO, blue rtv silicone had been used. It didnt leak from there so I figured I would just do that again. Maybe not the best idea, but it worked.

Ben, this forum does not use the linked image format you would actually upload your photos to the forum server. Here's a LINK TO THE FAQ that explains how to upload an image.
