"Clean ALL that grease out of trunnion"

Well Thanks For the Advice, Seems my Thinking of Proper Tractor Maintenance has Once Again Been Corrected,,,,

I Appreciate all the Comments and Feedback,,,

This being My First Tractor and First Cub figured I'd Eventually get through the Learning Curve!!!!

Thanks Again Everyone for All the Helpful Info.

Jason, VERY nice 149! You are right there is a lot of awesome advise on this website.

I have a 149 that I'll be assembling some time in the next few months or years...I hope to make it close to as nice as yours.

Vincent T:

Thanks....

I think when you say Few Months or Years I can Totally Sympathize w/ You,,,,

I guess Depending on your Degree of Rehab, Refurbish, or Restoration depends on many Factors. Money, Time, Ability, and Access to Proper Tools Tooling and Hardware,,, Just to name a Few,,,,

For My Situation I Needed a "Lawn Mower" the More Research I did on The New Box Store "Mowers" The more I Leaned toward the Older Built to Last Tractors!!!

I'm Fortunate to be a Wrench Puller By Trade w/ Access to Tools and so forth. My needs for a WORKER, and my Time Frame ruled out a Full Blown Restoration,,,,
.
I Found This old Boy on CL ad Stated Runs Great and Everything Works as it Should,,,

.

I Knew I Would Have some Repairs ahead of me but Nothing that was out of my Skill set...

I Actually Mowed the Day after purchase, and a few times during the Refurbish,,,,

I Have Seen Some Unbelievable Restorations on This site where You can tell it's Very Obvious Great Care And Attention was Given to Every Detail and Real Actual professional paint jobs. Not the rattle can touch up paint job I used to prevent the cancer from spreading. Some of which were even lucky enough to obtain the real textured metal emblems instead of the vinyl decals that I opted for. I've seen many restorations you "OR I Wouldn't Anyway" Dare Consider Taking out in the Dirt,,,

So Don't Set your Goals to High, Stay within your Means, Ability, Time Frame, and Budget, and Most Importantly Enjoy the Process of Finding Parts and Being Patient and I'm Sure Your Finished Product will be Something that gives you A Sense of Achievement and Accomplishment,,,,,

And on top of all that as a bonus you will have one bad ass tractor!!!!!!

Good Luck!!!!

Jason - thanks for that great lead in for me. I've posted most of these pics before but seems an opportune time to do so again. Here's my 169 sitting under my deck in the condition I originally acquired it, and then about 7 or 8 years later after I finally got it finished. There is a lot of attention to detail here, and I'm not the Correct Police (but fill in on occasion) but I did use both pre and post production parts for some things, but it's all IH right down to the "WP" stamped heads for the original correct bolts. Even the screws holding the dash tin and the center frame cover are original. (Ops, the muffler is non-original because that's all I could get at the time but I'm about ready to correct that now). Maybe some of the guys on here can tell what's pre and post production parts. Ooh, and another thing, it's all painted with CCC rattle cans, correct IH Cub Cadet colors (not sure why some of the pics make the colors look off).

Got the parts in today to fix the clutch on my 108. It took about 3 hours from start to finish, but the clutch is back, and actually a lot better than before it went out.

Turns out the throw out bearing wasn't as "exploded" as I thought it was. The spacer that sits in front of the bearing was really worn.

After getting it back together and quickly testing it, I took it out and mowed for a good hour with it. No problems whatsoever.

BTW, big thanks to Charlie for the parts- very much appreciated!

As promised, here are some pics:

I could have probably reused the bearing, but I wasn't going too. If I'm going this far in, I figured I may as well do it all. All in all, very glad to get this done!

HydroHarry:

Looks Like the 169 Started out as a "Manual" Lift???

Amazing Job By the Way!!!!!

I Love the Dash Tin with Original Hardware,,,,

Mine is Going to be Cutting Grass, Pushing Snow, Pulling, and Digging so I Opted for Stainless Hardware, as Much as I could Find and Replace Anyway,,,,

I used Stainless Allen Bolts on the Dash, Gas Tank Straps, Side Panels, and even found SS Hinge same width, pin size, and Same .060 Thickness,,,

Figure over Time as Much Hardware as I can Convert the Better!!!!

It looks like some PO just took some 3/8" round stock and made the hydraulic lever (maybe even in a hurry???).

I do like the white knob.

Hydro-

Why is there all of that black in the engine compartment like the heat shield? The police must be different on the left coast.

Hang in there buddy!
Your tractor looks just fine!
We ain't pickin on ya, just a little FYI along the way.
Continue on and enjoy the experience.

We were all first timers at some point.
That's the fun of it in my opinion.

Just remember,
Once your hooked, your hooked for life, so deal with it! LOL

Jason W. Charlie's correct. You're doing fantastic with your first Cub Cadet. Learning about these great garden tractors is like everything else... it takes time and the members here are willing to share and guide new members.

Wayne S. I've seen a few brand new 169s at dealerships many years ago and on auctions with the original engine and you're correct.... The engines from the factory were IH Federal Yellow and replacements were black.

It's supposed to rain all week and weekend. I'm sure not able to get much time spent actually working on projects. Just getting further behind.

Keep it up Jason.
At least you aren't dealing with a detailed 126 w/hydraulic lift 'n' stuff all installed and then realizing you forgot all about the PTO linkage!!

Here's my 149, I got a little less dirt and grime to clean off than Jason's an others we've all had. I have put Ag tires and weights on it for now. I have also scratched the paint on the fender, and there's a new layer of dust on it. That's all for now.
